Picked this up the other day for a good deal, and it operates fine, it just seems the cylinder is a little sticky when opening it up. I realized the ejector rod can be threaded in and out....I turned it finger tight, but it still does it a little....Any other thoughts. Gun appears to be clean, but maybe some buildup somewhere??

Thanks!!

I suspect that the center pin may be a bit short. The center pin is what the cylinder latch pushes against to open, which in turn depresses the latch under the barrel. Check, as you're opening the cylinder, as soon as you can see the ejector rod. The center pin should be flush with the end of the ejector rod (the finely knurled portion), if not, the slight removal of metal on the ejector rod may be necessary but don't remove the bevel.

Good luck and let us know the outcome or if you have any questions.
Take care, Steve

Did you clean carefully under the extractor star? A slight bit of carbon or dirt can prevent the extractor from going all the way back into the cylinder.

Hope this helps.

Before removing any metal I would remove the cylinder from the gun and insure that there is no fowling inside the cylinder. If the prior owner removed the cylinder for cleaning, it is possible that a brass bore bristle or some other fowling got inside the cylinder and is rubbing against the end of the yoke. A close inspection may require disassembly of he cylinder.

If the center pin is short than how would removing metal, making it shorter, work? I believe it is very clean, however, I haven't dis assembled the cylinder other than taking the cylinder off of the frame. I did not unscrew the ejector rod. I will do that and inspect the cylinder. Again, if its too short to push the barrel latch to release it, than it seems like it should be longer???? I'll have to take a look again to see what y'all are talking about.

Thanks! Keep em coming!

Basically, the center pin moves inside of the ejector rod. Kind of like a plunger inside of a tube. You don't shorten the center pin, you shorten the ejector rod to be flush with the center pin, it only takes a few thousands of a inch to cause the sticking you describe.

Steve

So, the threaded end may need to be shortened? Are we talking about shortening the rod with the knurled end that snaps into the pin under the barrel? Shortening the threaded end that is threaded into the shell ejector?

Don't touch the threaded end of the rod, just a few swipes with a file on the end that engages the barrel latch, just enough that the center pin and the ejector rod are flush. The reason for the sticking is because the latch snags on the protrusion of the ejector rod above the center pin.

I hope this answers your question.
