For all the 3rd Generation owners (Lovers) out there.
I picked up this 3913 LNIB and it is like the 4th one that I have owned.

My question is the frame color?......I have seen this color before but this is my first to own. (This is the best pic I could get to show the color difference)
Anyone elses this shade? Was this done for a couple runs?
Show me yours please
***Please excuse the Big Paw in the pic*******

My alloy S&W 3rds gens seem to turn this color as time goes on too. The frames are anodized clear, not silver, which is at least part of the issue.

I'm about 100 miles from the safe right now so I can't post a picture. But, yes I have a 3rd gen that has that same kind of green tint to the frame. I'm not sure what caused the color shift and it does not seem to have effected the pistol. I bought it used and the seller thought that it was useless and damaged beyond repair because of the color shift. I picked it up for $150 about ten years ago. The seller was selling it as a "Parts" gun that had all the parts installed and in fine working condition. My useless "Parts" gun has put several thousand rounds down range and occasionally gets put to work as a CCW piece.

BTW mine is a 4053.

Class III

Mine looks identical to Idp4570's 3913. A light gray. The muzzle has a permanent gray "blast" marking on it.

I've seen new in box 39XX series with that yellow - gray color before.

My serieal prefix is TEF. Flash chromed hammer and trigger. Regards 18DAI.

The alloy frame on my 6906 is the same color as your 3913. The alloy frame on my 4513 is more of a silver, but it has spent 99% of its life inside the blue plastic S&W case.

Here are pics of a 6906 and 3913, both seem more silver then yours.

The 6906 is a carry gun with lots of use, and the 3913 mostly sits in the safe. Both look similar.

Sunscreen. Always use sunscreen on your 3G smiths when going outdoors for any length of time.

Which is a twisted way of saying dunno but it happens to some of my 3G guns and sometimes it doesn't happen to other 3gs.

LOL!
Yep thats the ticket sunscreen.
Actually......It looks good together.
The pistol is is very clean and I am glad I picked it up.
Anyone else got any pics of frame colors?

3913 Frame color

Mine is a farily early model and shows no yellowing or discoloration. The frame still appears as just a very flat grey color. Sorry, can't do photos.

The frame color of my 3913NL is a darker gray than most I have seen.

Well
Sometimes I think I am guilty over thinking.
After looking at several other 3rd Gen pistiols. I came to the conclusion that they all come from the factory a silver/grey color. I took the pistol apart and gave it a good scrub down using a tooth brush and a mixture of Break Free and good ole Hoppes #9.
Well this is how it looked before in pic#1

and the new look after lots of elbow grease!
I think???? It was like oil that had dried on the surface???

I wish I had seen this thread earlier, I had bought a BNIB taurus pt1911ar that had a yellow haze to the finish as well and when I got it home I detail stripped it and gave everything a bath to get rid of the cozmoline they use to protect the guns and that is what was on the finish

I think there is a finish applied to the frames similar to duracoat because on mine in some places where the finish is worn I can see black (primer?) under the gray finish.
