New to me, K22, model 17-1

Here are some pics of a K-22 Masterpiece that I recently acquired. It came from a lady whose husband passed away. I am hoping that she'll be able to locate the box. It's in great shape with diamond magna grips that are numbered to the gun.

From what I've learned the 17-1 models with the left hand threaded extractor rods started in 1959. This 17-1 was shipped in January of 1962. It must have been a late shipment, as the 17-2 model change came about in 1961 when the trigger guard screw was deleted and the cylinder stop was changed.

Absolutely! 17-1's are more scarce than hen's teeth. Now to find one with the 8 3/8" barrel.

This is true at least for the Model 17, 19, and 29, and probably the Model 27. A few -1s were shipped as late as 1963.

Bill, thanks so much for the clarification! I didn't realize the 17-1 wasn't implemented until 1962.

I knew they weren't that common and were a little hard to come by. It seems like every time I learn something, I also learn how much I don't know!

Sorry for coming into this thread so late...

The 17-1's are very hard to find. Prolly more on the rare side then the scarce side. Bought the only one that I've seen. Drew whined and dined me, until I had to give it up. It was the one gun missing from his .22 Collection at the time. That should give you an idea of how hard they are to come by. BTW, it was a 8 3/8's barrel length...

i have several 17's but the -1 was a great find. a nice man from new mexico sold her to me. the best thing about my gun is that Mr Jinks told me that it was open on the books at s&w, witch means that it never left the factory. even if i get a factory letter it wont tell me where it was shipped. the man from NM is still tring to get me some info on it, i may never know where it went or why, it still a great gun and so is yours!
