Brought this over from another .40 thread as I felt I was (unintentionally) starting to hi-jack that.

I am not a newbie - but old/very infrequent forum member. (Smith I have now is a best of the bunch--in the quasi-carry revo world--Pre-lock/pre-transfer bar 65 LS (Lady Smith)).
I have been looking at the M&P .40. Having had the Daewoo DH40 for almost 20 years--not bad at all--I got hooked on the .40 for all the reasons afficianados of the round have stated. Just thought I'd dabble in the polymer + high(er) cap world finally. Another thread/poster just answered one of my questions re felt recoil--at least their favorable impression which I've heard many times
.
Any comparisons to the PX-4 Beretta (overall as well as the felt recoil issue)? In A-B'ing most of the usual suspects (Beretta, Glock, Springfield, etc) the M&P felt best in hand--as well as visually, to me. Right now, I'd say, not having shot it yet - I'm at 95%+ "sold."

Thanks.
Forty + year-long shooter of all variety.

It's probably not much help, as I can't compare it to the Beretta, but my M&P40 full-size is a fantastic shooter and feels much better to me than my Glock 23 did. With the large backstrap it is absolutely perfect for my hand. I did quite a bit of shooting with both the medium and large trying to decide, and I settled on the large.

Good luck!

I have nothing but great things to say about the 40FS. I carry one every day as it is my issue weapon. I've found it to be the most ergonomic design I've ever shot (this includes 1911s, GLOCK, BHP, non-M&P S&Ws, etc...). When I bring it up to fire it naturally aligns with the target. The recoil is easily managed due to the angle of the grip and the exaggerated tang which makes for a quick and accurate second shot when I'm doing double-tap drills. BTW, I own an M&P 40c and shoot it as effectively as the 40FS. Good luck with whatever you decide but you won't go wrong with the 40FS.

The 40 S&W is a snappy round in the polymer guns such as MP. However it is easily mastered. I have had the FS M&P 40 since it came out, I also have the 45. One of the things my nephew and I like to do when we get together is a quick draw contest, where we draw from the holster and fire five rounds on the clock, at a target 15 feet away. you must have 4 hits on target or your time does not count. My best time has been 1.87 seconds. So you can see the FS 40 recoil can be easily managed with proper technique and practice.

Out of your list and I do own one I say M&P 40 S&W. My Beretta PX4 40 S&W had a BAD trigger sting. Since sold and glad I did. In my opinion its a soft shooter even with the snapy recoil.
