I'm a complete newbie! The first rifle I ever put my hands on was a 15-22 (a few weeks ago) and I just received my own 15-22 a few days ago! Still waiting for ammo that I ordered from Cabella's, of which I have no information of so far.
I am in love with all the different mods I have seen on all your rifles, and I would love to pay top dollars and get the best of the best but unfortunately I have very little money to spend!
So could you guys please help me choose the right optics?
My budget is well under $100! So I understand I'l be getting what I pay for, but I'm not sure what I need.
I looked at some scopes on optics planet and one scope I really liked was the Simmons 22 Mag 3-9x32 Any issues I should be aware of?
I also am not sure if I should go with a red dot, but (from past experiences shooting with pellet rifles) I would prefer some magnification.
I am planning on going to the range and start shooting next week, most probably never gonna shoot more than 100yards. Mostly gonna be shooting between 25-100 yards.
Am I looking for the wrong optics?

Thanks for all the help!

IMO, the first question a newbie must ask, is what type of shooting am I gonna do? How do I plan on using this rifle? Only then can you determine what type of optics are best for you.

You state you would prefer magnification, but if you are gonna be shooting at 25 yards, why? If you plan on only shooting at a range & will get a kick out of seeing how tight a grouping you can get, then yes, I'd say you need magnification. Someone like me could care less about how tight a group I can get from the rest position. Once my gun is sighted in, my concern (and therefore my training) is for rapid target acquisition when shooting at multiple targets. If I can hit a 3" metal target at 25-50 yards and then repeat on other targets in different locations, then I have done good... even if my grouping is 3".

With that type training I don't want or need magnification. IMO, a 22lr is only good within 100 yards but for me, I never shoot one beyond 50 yards. Anything outside that range, I will use my .223 AR on which I keep a flip up magnifier with my Eotech. I personally use a TRS-25 red dot on my 15-22.

Thanks, so I guess I should be looking for red dots. But the TRS-25 is definitely out of my budget! any other choices?

the trs-25 is $89. last i checked thats under $100 and arguably the best dot at that price point.

hell i just nabbed a riser made for it locally that retails for more than the dot...

Your link show an Amazon price of $89 with free shipping. Look at the other prices not just the main price listed. Walmart also sell the TRS-25 for 99.99 great scope for under 100 bucks. Might still have the 20% rebate as well. Check into it! You can add the medium riser for a full cowitness as well for 100 bucks. That's what I run on my 15-22.

To see if my eyes liked a "red dot" I got a center point red/green dot from Walmart for $28.

Ran 500 rounds this weekend using only the red dot and had 1.5" groups at 50 and 3" groups at 100 from a bench with a $12 grip pod from amazon. Also split beer cans in half at 30 yards and was hitting a 3" spinner disc at 75. Not too shabby.

Now that I know I can see and use a red dot (I am some level of color blind) I will probably invest in a "better" one but still stay under $100 only because I am cheap and am not using this rifle for anything other than a little fun at the ranch to shoot stuff with my famil and I like run on sentences.

There's my $0.02

+1 for the Primary Arms 30mm. Great site, clear, holds a zero, and it a great deal for the price -$69.00 plus $10 for the high rise cantilever mount. Also great reviews from reputable gun sites and forums.

Best red dot for the money out there. I ran a BSA $25 red dot for a while and it did fine also. The mount sucked but it did the job. Went with the Primary Arms and haven't looked back. Now have 3 of them.
