May sound like a stupid question but I believe that I am getting more scratches in the barrel than I had. But not sure if this is anything to worry about because the gun doesn't seem to be having any problems, and it is still accurate.

My revolvers have a few but not five.

Bought a used 4506 and I love it. Great gun. My first semi mag. I know there are lines in the barrel due to the ammo twisting as it is fired out of the gun, but what is normal amount of twist lines? My gun has 5.

Any thoughts.

What you should see inside of the barrel are lands and grooves and as long as they uniformly spiral out clockwise from the chamber to the crown you should be fine. If I remember correctly, my 4506-1 has six, not five, but they are hard to count. You can go crazy looking for scratches in your barrel, due to the difficulty in lighting it and the reflections and shadows created. The 4506 is a well built gun. Shoot good ammunition and clean the barrel regularly and correctly with a bronze brush and it will last a long time.

Good luck,

Not sure if you are confused about this, and forgive me if you already know, but the lands and groove are what spins the bullet as it travels. A spinning bullet does not cause "the lines".

Thank you both for explaining the lands and grooves. I think my 4506 is fine, and yes it is 6 lands.

Thank you, Justin
