So the 15-22 and its variants have been around for a decent while these days.

Is it worth wondering if and when they might refresh the line?

Also, what would you like to see in a MP15-22.0 lol.

Personally I think it would be cool if they started using a lightweight alloy in place of the polymer, and opened up the ability to incorporate more 3rd party barrel options.

The best thing we have to look forward to is S&Ws' patents expiring turning loose the aftermarket...

That is gonna be a wait. S&W filed on 12/28/2009 and the patent was issued on 7/10/2010.

From the patent office: the patent term is either 17 years from the issue date or 20 years from the filing date of the earliest U.S. or international (PCT) application

So that puts the patents as expiring around 2027 to 2029 depending up on which date is used.

Since we are dreaming......

I would like to see the quad rail updated to an MLOK slotted design. I find that the current quad rail does nothing more the hold rail covers. Plus MLOK was made with polymer in mind where keymod is geared toward metal handguards.

maybe call it the "15-22 MLOK" ;)

Since were dreaming..........

U.S. Patents filed after June 8, 1995 expire 20 years from the date of filing.

U.S. Patents filed prior to June 8, 1995 expire 17 years from the date of issue, or 20 years from the first non-provisional patent application in the family - whichever is later.

So I guess we schedule a party for 12/28/2029, unless we get lucky and S&W doesn't keep the maintenance fees paid up...

I like the rifle overall. the only thing I would change is to make it easier to take the rail off. Other than that I'd leave it alone

You already have the capability of replacing the quad rail with just about anything on the market, including the MLOK.

I just used a friends AR with a Keymod rail on it. I am totally leaning in that direction now. Would like to see an Mlock guard but I'm pretty sold on a Keymod.

Pity the rail is almost the price of the gun.

It's worth it. I put it on mine. Lol
Seriously awesome.
You just have to do some modification to the nut and it works out perfectly.

I put the 13 inch on my Performance Center 15-22.

Apparently it requires permanent modification to the 15-22, but i really like the 'Diamondhead' handguards and would be my choice of replacement. :) FWIW. They now also do a 'keymod' version.

Yeah,I had to permanently modify my upper. Really easy though for me at least. Just those small pieces of plastic sticking out. They actually help as a bracket or guide for the original hand guard to alleviate rotational movements.

I did have to permanently modify my nut KMR Handguard nut.

If you had just bought the Tacticool22 adapter you would not have had to "modify" the KMR barrel nut.

Lol,

I indeed have the tacticool adapter. And yes, it fit into the rifle as intended. However, there was about a half inch Gap between the upper rail and the Handguard rail.

Hence the permanent modication of the KMR nut.

The KMR hg requires a proprietary barrel nut from Bravo company.
