called yesterday to get an update on the 3 form 4's i have in the line that all went pending on May 3. that's almost 6 months and the stamps should be here in a couple of weeks.....BUT....the operators have a new line that they tell you all forms are taking 15 months from date of pending!!!! i'm sure it is a CYA kinda thing and i was taken aback a little.
buddies 4's were sent a couple weeks prior to mine and he has his stamps in hand, that is where i thought my timeline was at.

hopefully it is just Gov. speak for people submitting now, that i can see with the sequester and the way extra load of people submitting NFA p/w for a future scare.

I still think mine will be here in 2-3 weeks, fingers crossed, because i can't see 15 months from a May pending date would put it at August next year! no way!

Yeah, I hope its BS too, I have one more form 1 sitting there.

My stamp came in last August. It took 7 months from check cashed and 6 months from pending. Seems like it was getting slower & slower, with more folks purchasing. They told me to expect 12 months right before mine came in.

At what point do we get the Better Business Bureau involved? The moment that the check is cashed represents payment for services. BBB requires that services must be rendered in a reasonable timeframe once payment is provided.

7 months to me is excessive. 15 is downright criminal. Of course since checks are void after 90 days, that puts them in a bind...

I got mine in just prior to the recent CLEO/TRUST 'loophole' closure executive order. I really don't want to wait another year...

If you want a suppressor you have to deal with reality... there is gonna be a long wait. You can choose to get flustered but that will not help anything. I suggest you just forget about it. The stamp will come in when it comes in & there is nothing you or the BBB can do about it.

BBB has nothing to do, one way or another, with any branch of government. What do you think the BBB can, or would, do? The only recourse with a federal agency is Congress, and it's obvious BATFE doesn't care what congress wants or thinks.

I'd rather send the BBB after Congress... every single member.

All BBB can do is issue a rating. You think folks are gonna quit buying suppressors because they take too long to approve? Not like you can go to some other entity to get your stamp.

Trust loophole is not law yet, Im hoping mine goes through before. I used the Efile, so my money is taken that day.

I feel your pain.

My check was cashed in early Feb... still waiting.

BBB? Now there's an idea! If they would just report the BATFE as lousy to do business with then everyone would know to take their business elsewhere. I'll look in the Yellow Pages under Tax Stamp to see who else is issuing them in my area.

Oil filters and pot scrubbers do not require stamps and are easily available :):):)

Just kidding BATF...just kidding :)

My comment was obviously not taken in the manner intended. Of course the BBB can't do anything. And the BAFTE is a monopoly. I'll be happy once I get my can, and I'll forget about it until then, but that doesn't make me any less happy with our government or it's bureaucracy.

Remember, the thread is 'NFA, what a JOKE'.....................

the thread was no JOKE by any means, if anyone misinterpreted the title. that is the standard form statement they say when you ask status, they give you where it is, in my cases 'went pending May 3rd' then give you the 15 month spiel. i had actually forgotten about them until the popup reminder came up on my work PC yesterday to give them a call.

i was shocked at that disclaimer she said at the end. mine, as well as others prior to mine went pending way before the supposed 'loophole' find, which is crazy to begin with.

just thought i would update everyone so you do not get 'time delay shock' when you give them a call to check your status.

if the folks who put in in Feb will reactivate this thread when they get approved, i'll do the same for my pending May date, then we can compare.

the NFA calculator has not been upkept in awhile as the guy did not have time, so it is not accurate. so off they go into the back of my mind until i get some sort of notification.

BTW mine are on trusts and all my other ones are listed on the trust appendix A assignment of property, so they should really just have to just give it a cursory glance and stamp it off. it is in my name in the trust name, so maybe they do a background on it. IDK.

They are a joke. There is no reason to tax a right just because some 1920s gangsters smuggled booze and used guns.

I find it funny that you can have an AR-15 pistol and not pay the tax. And it is just so easy to swap on a butt stock to have a SBR.

Its also a joke that a hearing safety device requires a tax while other countries with more restrictive gun laws encourage its use.

And I don't see what else they need to run a background check on? Has anyone ever passed a standard BG check in their home state and failed the NFA check?

The NFA and its rules are a joke!!!

We are funding the dang operation at $200 each just to shuffle a couple pieces of paper!

They say the volume has greatly increased and can't keep up. Well here's an idea, get some more help... temp workers and a couple more computers or whatever. We are paying for it, not asking for welfare. I understand that government cannot always adjust quickly and are typically burried in red taoe, but I also notice that even with the great volume increase they have figured out how to get the paperwork, strip out the check and cash it right away.

or do like most of the military and procurement agencies and farm out the petty stuff to the lowest bidder, like processing the payment, doing the BG check on Trusts, LLC's, Corps, etc and leaving the individual to the examiners.
where i work, we put the profiles, limited duty, desk bound, due to illness or injury into other places if the department cannot accommodate them. i'm sure the ATF has some office monkey's that are recovering from major surgeries like paper cuts that could fill the position of a temp examiner and do basic stuff to make them faster.

ridiculous that they have a 9 person staff for the entire states! And what about the time differences in approvals between examiners??????

Let's be thankful that none of the recent kooks that have had their 15 minutes of fame by shooting others and then their selves, have not used any NFA items! I bet if one of them used a sawed off SG during their melee you would not even hear the word NFA, just that he used a sawed off shotgun!!! But we would be crucified if one used a can during their rampage. you don't even hear about the "assault" weapons they used and whether or not they had been SBR'd or not, just that it was an "assault weapon". I even think that if one of the nutz converted an AK or whatever and went out you would not hear about the NFA Act either.

Sandra Snook takes less than 6 months, I don't have the list in front of me but the one guy takes 4-5 months. Ann Feltner for my area takes 7+ months!!
you would think that there would be a little difference in the speed at which a person works, or maybe they are cherry picking first and keeping the more difficult ones for last, but there should be a standard, of some number per day per examiner, at least to measure their productivity when it comes to end of year evaluations!!

don't get me started anymore, my BP is going up!!!

trying to make any sense of the NFA will do nothing but raise your blood pressure. remember the party in power hates guns in general and class 3 items especially. they will run at their slowest rate until there is a change of power and these people are gone. it was that way years ago when I was involved in this business.

Hell i cant even remember when they came in or around a 6 month time period. Thats like asking for a brick of .22lr for $10 now days. Down here ur lucky if u see a stamp in just over a year.

I don't think this info is correct. I am in Mississippi and my stamp was signed by Shannon Siviero.

This map is dated last year & seems to match up with my state... at the very least.
