Nonlethal weapons

I am a Senior Citizen. That gives me a lot more latitude when it comes to self defense than the young guys do. Somebody here had a sig line that said: "Don't mess with an old man. If he can't fight, he'll just kill you." And that's exactly what will happen. I don't go looking for problems, and will just walk away. Don't even THINK of following me.

Most women are in the same position. There is already an unequal force (or whatever the term is that escapes me at the moment). If I cannot get away clean (that is, without an attack upon me), I'm not giving the assailant the luxury of increasing levels of force to persuade him. I'm not negotiating like that. If the situation is at the point where I need to stop the threat, that's exactly what I will do as unequivocally as possible.

I'm not saying this from a "macho" angle but a realistic one. Somewhere on the forum is the posting about the rapist who came back for seconds and she shot & killed him. They came back to get you if they think you let them get away with it the first time, and this time they're bolder and angrier.

I'm with you there! I had a permit about 30 years ago because the job made a weapon necessary. When I quit the job I didn't renew the permit. Didn't feel the need to carry until this past year when I realized I'm old, real old, too old to fight and can't run a step. I'll do anything I can to avoid trouble but being unable to fight or run leaves me no choice now but to draw and unless you're turned and running your sorry @ss is mine. "Don't mess with an old man, if he can't fight, he'll just kill you" I love it!

Your logic is impossible to understand.

Let's say a drunk starts to accost you. You can't really walk away because of your location.

What do you do now? Nothing? Kick his ass with your fists? Shoot him?

Remember, there is nothing in your toolbox other than going hand to hand (likely to get you charged with assault and battery) or deadly force.

You make no sense at all.
Nothing in the fighting world easier than dropping a drunk.

If you are ever in a situation where an individual (or several of them) ACTUALLY proceeds to bring seriously injurious force against you, you will be desperately wishing you had a rocket propelled grenade launcher to stop them RIGHT NOW. Pepper spray is nice if you want to be nice to someone's dumb dog, but a violently calculating criminal may require more stern persuasion. It's you life so it's your call.

I live in Massachusetts where it's illegal for civilians to use Tasers, stun guns, knuckles and batons. In addition to a subcompact carry gun, I use Mace Triple Action, a SOG Flash II and a Fenix PD30 defensive flashlight.

How you are expected to react to an assault, and with which weapon, will largely depend on your training. LE have been trained to follow a force continuum and/or an escalation of force model. Civilians have not. If you're licensed to carry and choose to do so, stick with that and protect yourself. Civilians are not held to the LE standard of working their way through an escalation of force model, and rightly so. Not to mention, I've seen more than a few cops get hurt fumbling their way through an encounter using the various non lethal weapons that they have been "trained" to use. Keep it simple. IMO

The phrase "yo, give it up" and a hand on the arm do not constitute a lethal threat.

Your statement is not necessarily correct. You might want to consult both a lawyer and a forensic pathologist about its practical accuracy.

If an agressor places his hands on you I submit you are in fear of great bodily harm. React quickly & forcefully. Frank
