If there is an "assault weapons ban" or a ban on "high capacity magazines" I will comply, and be inconvenienced, but I am not losing sleep over it and I am not buying or selling anything in anticipation.

Basically, with a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum, a Remington 31 and a Winchester Model 70 I can't say I am not armed.

If I could protect the 2nd Amendment I would, but I can't. I only have one vote and I live in New Jersey. To me, a ban on evil black rifles and/or high capacity magazines is just not worth my worrying about.

Anyone else feel similarly apathetic and resigned to losing a little more Liberty?

You can protect your rights and for all of us at the same time. Call and email your legislators! The only thing they understand is the threat of not being re-elected.
I am sorry, but a post about how apathetic you are is not constructive. What do you think got us where we are now? Apathetic citizens did...that's who!

Although I too have no real desire to run out and purchase an AK or AR or a gazillion round magazine, I do belong to the NRA and have written my congressmen because what scares the wits out of me is how congressfolks like Pelosi will define "Assault Weapon". If that doesn't spook every gun owner in America then bring on the zombies!

Did you even read Feinstein's bill? It would ban most semi-automatic firearms not just AR's and AK's. How about the 1911's, all Glock's and all others as well.

You guys must have missed what Feinstein said in the passing of the '94 AWB:

"If we had gotten 51%, I would have said Mr. & Mrs. America, turn them in. Every last one of them." I may have not remembered it perfectly, but a remark like that does tend to stick in one's memory.

ETA, found the clip of her statement.

If you guys are fine with what you have, great. Doesn't give you the right to say what's right for someone else. And if you think that this is anything less than an opening salvo in the attempt to take YOUR guns you just have not been paying attention.

This is how you lose the battle before it's even begun. I am NOT "apathetic and resigned to losing a little more Liberty" AT ALL!

You should be ashamed.

what starts as bannig black rifles and big magazines could evolve to include the classic 357 revolver, whether or not i own a black rifle i stand united with those that do. the second amendment is not up for negotiation. ever. if we dont stand together we could all suffer the long term conseqenences.

There was a static out that the average number of shots fire in a shooting was like 2.8 with this rational we should ban any fire arm that has over 3 shots. Why would you need more than 3 if you are a good hunter a single shot is all you need hect if you only need a single shot for hunting we should ban all firearms that shot metallic cartridges because if you only need one shot cap ball and powder will be fine

Once you start down the slippery slope of banning one rifle or magizine or fire arm there is alot of compelling reason to keep going until all we have left is our memories of the second admendment

Heres the problem with things...

BREAKING: Illinois Bill to Ban All Modern Firearms | The Truth About Guns

However if we were to lose, we don't have much choice. Life will go on but its not good for anyone or the USA in general.

But that article makes no sense to me?? First it says it will ban all not just assault but classics like M1 Garand and 1911.

Then below that it says mags would be limited to 10 rounds.

But a 1911 hold 7 or 8??

It also goes on to say weapons need to be turned in and no grandfathering in.

Sounds a lot like something that happened many years ago in other countries. Apparently we no longer have a Constitution.

My point is that being upset about the attack on the 2nd Amendment isn't going to help.

I am also not spending time, effort and money to acquire items that would pass muster under a new ban.

The best thing I can do to help the 2nd Amendment is to educate my family and friends about responsible gun ownership. Living in NJ, writing to my elected officials will NOT help, it will only encourage them in their attacks on the RTKBA.

This is precisely the attitude that, should it prevail, will result in every single one of us, revolver and bolt/lever rifle shooters included, losing all of our guns.

You're certainly welcome to your opinion...but if you truly believe an "Assault Weapons" and/or "High Capacity Magazine" Ban won't affect you, you're sadly misinformed.

Unbelievable....

If you've already thrown in the towel, you are not helping anyone, including yourself. Sticking your head in the sand will not make this go away.

You are correct, the chipping away at the 2nd Amendment is a slippery slope.

I see a 10 round limit on magazines being enacted into law and I do not see it being overturned by the Supreme Court

This will, unfortunately, establish that it is constitutional to limit the "firepower" of the ordinary citizen.

I am not saying I like it. I am just saying that this is what I expect.

The problem with willing to give up a "little freedom" is next time..its a little more freedom until its gone forever. Our second ammendment is not about guns to hunt with, its about being able to be in control of our government. Hitler was just one man....but he was responsible for executing 6 million jews. Think it can not happen here? Armed civilans are no threat to a responsible government but they are a threat to any government that wants to control the population. I believe in the people and the government is of the people, for the people and by the people...the second ammentment is to insure that the people are in control of government...not the othert way around and I intend to be as well armed as any government that may one day decide that they do not need Jews, or Irish or english or African Americans or Mexicans etc etc. No responsible government has anything to fear from an armed population....but an unarmed population may have a lot to fear from an armed government and police state...rights...??? You will not have any.....and I have no intention of putting myself in a compromising position by any government. There are many Afghans today that are at the mercy of the Tali9ban because they do not have the means to defend themselves. Many famlies have had their husbands and sons executed because they had no means to resist. Read Love and War in Afghanistan by Alex Klaits to see what happens to a defenceless population....no thank you...I will keep my AR-15,s and my high capicity magazines. I am not threat to any law abiding citizen .....and I would fight to defend the freedom of my countrymen and my own freedom and I will not stand by and watch my rights eroded because some mentally disturbed criminal killes innocent people. Armed citizens are a defence against those that would harm us or kill our children...and they can be forgein or domestic. I intend to be prepared to defend myself and those I care about and being as well prepared as my enemy might be. Any thing less is dangerous to our own freedom. We need to fight for our rights ...the NRA is our best bet....backed up by citizens that will not give up our rights under the constitution. Freedom has never been free.
