NRA SHOULD ORGANIZE A MILLON MAN/WOMAN MARCH ON D.C.

From the crowds I saw at the gun show yesterday and the crowds I have been hearing about from other forum members in their states, it shouldn't be too difficult to amass a group of a million people.

I don't see where they are presently doing anything about the pending legislation, except for the calls to join. Can anyone tell me what the plans are and when they are going to start to talk about this pending legislation by Feinstein, because I see nothing.

I google NRA and come up with the store, and many links to join or send money. And stories by the left like this
http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/america-mad-gunman-article-1.1225123
With lots of links to sign ANTI gun petitions. I like these guys:
http://jpfo.org/

they don't seem to be responding and this bill is supposed to be moving forward in a couple of weeks. I clicked on a legal link on one of their pages and it was all stuff from 2011 and two things from 2012, the lastest June 2012.

What's going on?
NONE of the pro gun groups seems ot be talking about this, or of the other things that are happening... Stores pulling inventory of AR type firearms, even GUN SHOPS near me not selling RIFLES now to anyone without a carry permit....

Perhaps they are waiting until there is actual legislation in play before acting. Right now there is nothing but talk, emotion, and with rare exception (see illinois) no actual legislation is being debated. Holding ones powder until there is something to shoot at might be wise.

Isn't it better to head it off before legislation by letting the elected officials know how members feel. Most members have already contacted their reps but it would not hurt for them to be also letting them know and to start speaking for the members.

NRA has always been a lobbying organization, so we are unlikely to see what actions are being taken out of public view. Sausage making, you know?

But this is what I think is important: there's the NRA leadership, which we depend on for the lobbying functions. But then there are the 4 million members. We are a grass roots organization, first and foremost. If all 4 million members can take 10 minutes a day, actually more like 5 minutes, and write their elected representatives in opposition to any new gun laws, then I believe that we can turn this tide. The NRA has a nice tool that allows one letter to go to all your elected officials at once. If everybody would take the 5-10 minutes everyday to keep hammering them, I think we can beat back the current threat to our rights.

JOIN: NRA Memebership
and
WRITE: Write Your Reps!

This has me a little jaded also, but I wouldn't accuse them of or imply capitulation just yet. As others have stated, they might be waiting for the "right moment" to step forward considering how "delicate" the event that sparked this renewed debate is.

I'm not saying do nothing. It is time for probing and recon work to prep the "battlefield". The millions who have written to the various officials is excellent. The fact that millions write on their own accord gives pause to them because they know that when the NRA weighs in and unites that force things will change.

Don't get me wrong. I don't support the NRA 100% and I have posted here before that Lapierre is a walking talking PR disaster but they are the greatest lobbying force we have and despite the differences I will support them. However, they need to keep their eyes on all 57 states and on the national level. They (read We) have to be careful not to get baited into spending our ammo while getting flanked. This is going to be very tactical.

Individuals need to keep writing and calling. Individuals need to donate (pick someone and donate; NRA, GOA, Jews4guns, Big5patrons4guns, or whatever). The upcoming crush will take a page out of the 2nd Iraq war intended to shock and awe and then overwhelm the defenses; Repulicans in the congress (like em or not), the NRA and then the rest of the gun lobby.

There will be a place for a million man march as this plays out (in my opinion and yes I would drive cross country to attend). The question of timing is the only debate right now

Thanks so far for all the replies to my question.

It was just on my mind as I have been hearing nothing.

So I wondered.

Thanks again.

I one time heard some one say Americans forget quickly.

Great example Benghazi you hardly here anything in the news about it. How about Casey Anthony bet you don't remember that name but it was huge a few years back.

Maybe there just standing back giving american times to think and calm down. They started up now every news agency would be talking about how evil guns should be banned.

I agree. I have some issues with the NRA and don't support everything they do, either. I also think LaPierre is a horrible representative. Look at Obama. Say what you want about him, but he has charisma to spare. But I am still a member of the NRA and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Like it or not, they are our only hope.

As 2hawk has said, the strength and power of the NRA come from the members. The public faces of the NRA speak for us and represent our views. The NRA does note vote. Its member vote. The leverage the NRA has is that we members talk to, write to, and reward those legislators that support us. We also work to remove from office those that threaten our freedoms.

Don't sit back and expect "the NRA" to take care of us. The NRA's lobbying efforts won't mean squat if we don't do our part as members, individuals, and citizens to let our elected officials know we all want our rights protected. We also need to remind them that we will not forget their gun-related votes at the next election.

The NRA is not the 800 pound gorilla. The individual NRA members are the real strength of the organization.

A peaceful march on Washington, stretching fro the Lincolon Memorial to the Sts of Capitol Hill. Really it is time for those of us to brave the weather even if it is cold in January, or hot in August.
