Just added a 64-4 NY-1 to go along with the 60-2 NY-1.

Very nice. I have a couple of 2” RB Model 36s and a 4” HB Model 64. The 64 was made in 1980 and is the newest gun that I own.

While my main interest is S&Ws revolvers from the first M&P up until the end of pinned barrels there are certainly some post 1982 revolvers that I would love have. The NY-1 revolvers are at the top of the list along with the last of the J frame .32s.

Congrats on that K-frame NY-1. Very cool.

I have the J-frame version, with a twist.

It's one of the 1,253 Robert Vivas said the NYPD Equipment Bureau didn't sell to an officer so NYPD sent it back to S&W, where it was converted from DAO to SA/DA and sent to a distributor. It fills the 60-2 square in the herd.

I'd love to see S&W offer a similar configuration to the 2" or 3" NY-1 models these days. They make great carry revolvers. I suppose the closest thing to them now is a Taurus 856 Executive, but I'd like to see a partial underlug personally.

(Special thanks to ViperMD for allowing me to live up to my forum namesake by adding this 4" model to my collection. :D)

I fully understand NYPD's decision for DAO revolvers for their thousands of employees. OTOH, I prefer to have the SA option iavailable n my DA revolvers, so IMHO, you've got the best of both worlds. Does it have paperwork to show its "checkered" history? With the NY-1 marking, I'd want to be able to prove that the second phase of its life began with a proper trip to the Mothership rather than Bubba's Bar, Grille, and House of Guns or even a legitimate non-factory gunsmith.

I don't have paperwork.

Robert Vivas' word regarding serial number and its travels, and Dr. Jinks' second ship date are good enough for me.

I guess you're suggesting Bubba could add the NY-1 and nobody would know the difference. Right? Bubba would have a tough time altering the 60-2.

I guess I'm simply not skeptical enough.

I also have NY-1 60-2 that I saw listed on one of invoices that was posted on the forum. Don’t know if it was issued or sent back.

Robert Vivas could tell you.

The Product Code is interesting. I've seen it used for the Model 60 2" square butt in 1984, the Model 60 2" for the Virginia State Police Auxiliary 1 of 190 limited edition in 1985, and also for a Model 60-3.

It would be great if lonestar57 would share the PC from his box with us (assuming it's the correct box for his 60-2 NY-1).

NY

Lonestar those are really sweet revolvers. Just curious, will you shoot them ?

Yes, all my guns start out with being thoroughly cleaned and inspected and most are eventually taken out to run some live rounds through them. I like to know that they are fully functional and it's part of my enjoyment of their history and ownership.

Mine came from a shop on Long Island with a NYC marked Strong holster. DAO and a great shooter. According to Roy it was shipped 11/88 to “a large Police Department”. At this time RM Rivas doesn’t yet have the info on Model 64’s but there is a lot of information about them in SCSW 4.
