Hi, I live in Berks county Pa. and yesterday I saw a hunter on horseback. He had full oarnge on, a license on his back, and a rifle in a leather scabbard.
My first thought was.....what season is open...and what limitations if any for hunting on horseback.
Gota say thats the first time I saw a licensed hunter on horseback in Pa. Just curious,

It looks like antlerless deer is open in some units.

Laws & Regulations

I've never heard of laws against horseback hunting, it's a very traditional and effective way to hunt. Probably a good idea to dismount before taking the shot. It's a long way down! :D

Deer do not recognize a horse and rider as anything other than just the horse. You can often ride very close to the deer. Plus you can shoot from the back of any horse, at least once , anyway.

I'd love to have access to a horse. Within a 1/4 mile from my house is a great place to bowhunt on public reservoir land (no moterized vehicles allowed) and not hunted hard due to the fact you'd have to get your deer back up a 1/2 mile steep hill. At my age that would be an impossibility. My neighbors have horses and probably would help me if they were home at the time.

Dammed risky for the horse back in that country. I sure wouldn't want to be on one when some guy took a real good "sound shot"

I have seen pictures of cows painted with "COW" in white paint on their sides and bells on them to keep some fool from shooting them.

LOL, YUP! That thar's a cow alright!!:D
Here is the pic Iggy was referring to. I managed to delete it before he posted.

Hunting from horseback is not uncommon in Arkansas. I've never done it, but I've hunted with folks who regularly do.

In my youth, I did most of my hunting in Tar Hollow State Forrest in OH. Plenty of horse back hunters there at the time. I can only assume the case is still the same.
