Paid a compliment at the gunshop

So I walk into my local gunshop the other day, and the owner and one of the counter guy are in mid conversation. As I walk in (on duty, in uniform), the owner says "Here's a revolver guy, you'd probably carry a revolver on duty if the let you". "Yes I would" I replied. Actually I do, I always have a S&W J frame of some sort in the pocket as a back up to my issued non S&W pistol. My first issued duty weapon years ago was a S&W M65 4". At the time, I felt undergunned with it, but 20+ years later I'd rather carry a 4" M65 or M66 to any pistol.

That's quite a compliment! I'm a revolver guy myself.

My buddies call me "Wyatt Earp" when we shoot because of all my revolvers.

I get comments all the time on my 5" 27-2 that I carry for a duty weapon.

And yes, I can still qualify with it.

Bet that slapper was more than just an ornament back in the day. The "old school" guys are hard to find these days.

I've had that said of me also. But then the gun shop guy says, "After all, his first duty gun was an 1851 Colt Navy".

I miss the days of law enforcement when law and order was acheived with the .38 caliber revolver and the leaded, leather sap. My agency issues a GLock 22. I carry it. I also sneak in a wheel gun on duty every now and then.

Started with a S&W model 19 then a 586 before changing to the 4506.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for a revolver. Still qualify with my 686 2 1/2" every year.

Carried a "slapper" for years. It's a hell of a lot less likely to be fatal than that wonderful modern invention the "Taser"! Never have heard of a fatality from using a sap, just a little blood from time to time. The best one was a graduation from the academy from a long time friend.

Those old leather saps were good tools. Always handy. I wish we could still carry them.
