In a way, Fender guitars are a bit like AR rifles. You can take various parts bought separately and put them together to make a functional guitar/rifle. That is what I did with this Jazzmaster. Been gathering parts for a couple months now, and finished assembling it today after getting some pickup foam in.

Fender American Professional neck
Fender Player tuners I took off the MIM Tele when I upgraded to Fender Vintage Style split shaft tuners
Fender Player II fully loaded pick guard
Fender Japan tremolo
Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazzmaster body and bridge

Everything went together quite well with no issues with the pick guard holes lining up, and the neck holes were less than a millimeter off. Made it quite snug when tightening the neck down, but that should be a good thing I would think. This guitar has as much high end sparkle as that MIM Telecaster I bought.PartsmasterJazzmaster.jpg

The Jazzmaster is a wonderful guitar. I guess this is a Squire issue? If you have the talent to restore, I think you should start looking beyond Japan , Mexico, Korea and wherever and start restoring the American issues. I do like seeing your restorations.

My first Fender was a Candy Apple red 65 Jaguar. I remember it cost me 221.00 OTD. God how I wish I still had it. The short neck, rhythm/lead selections and the string mute all made it fabulous.

The only things Squier on it are the body and bridge. Everything else is either Fender Mexico(tuners, loaded pick guard), Fender Japan(tremolo), or Fender USA(neck). Would love to do this kind of work on Fender USA or Fender Japan guitars but we will have to wait and see about the budget. If I can find some in the right condition/price range then for sure I would do that.
