PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATES

In my younger days I drove an S-10 lowered enough to regularly remove the reflectors from the hwy.

My plate read... ACRO4BA :D

Years back I had a friend that had the plate LUVBEER. Yes he did but he was smart enough not to drink and drive even before he got that plate.

He actually had little problems with the LEOs about that plate but a couple of do-gooders that were part of a national group of DWI and drinker haters in particular took umbrage, made a huge stink. After about 2 years DMV recalled the plate.

I've never had a vanity plate either but my cousin, who's more like a brother, has a tag on one of his cars 440 RT. He's not really worried about the tag calling attention to him since the tag is on a bright red 1968 Dodge Charger RT, 440 CID with dual quads. Just cranking it up attracts attention.

For a few years my plates on my truck was "United We Stand" with EBR M4. No one could figure out what it meant. But I went back to regular plates. Got tired of paying VA DMV $35.00 extra a year of plates.

In 1989, I bought a new Ford Taurus SHO with the 3 liter Yamaha DOHC motor.

I got a personalized plate of SHO FUN.

I doubt they would issue that one today.

I saw this just Monday--acar that belonged to a guy who runs the Tae Kwon Do studio that my Great Nieces and Nephews go to. I kid not--his is: SHO-GUN. This guy used tobe a Martial Arts instructor in the Marine Corps.

When first available, probably around 20 years ago, I picked up my Veteran plates and still have them.

Cost extra versus regular plates, but some of the proceeds go to the Soldiers Home, got to help out those other Vets.;)

Fleet update.

A recent addition to the fleet required some plate transfers and a new one. Believe me, it was not an easy deal nor a cheap one. What the heck....I think they are both properly situated now. :)

Be safe.

PS: Sports fans will understand the Jeep plate; some of you may not.

Here's the other photo.

Having a heckuva time uploading pix. Hope this works. And mods, if you can properly orientate the photo in post 93 I would be grateful.

Be safe.

The last personalized motorcycle plate I had was a Vietnam veteran plate. The letters: DU DIT

When the DMV lady asked about the significance of the letters I told her it was French for "good day." She told me that her husband was a Vietnam vet and that she was going to tell him.

Either she never did tell him or he never did tell her the truth. I suspect the latter.

I also have my ham call sign for my plate. In almost ten years I have had ONE person call out in the blind on 52 (that I'm aware of- it's not always on).

The real kick in the groin was when it came time to renew last year, they made me buy NEW plates. They said that after seven years the reflectivity was faded. Bear in mind they never saw the plates, they were making the assumption they had faded. OK, so how come they don't swap out the stop signs every seven years? I've seen some that are so faded they just look like pink blobs at night. The reflectivity of my license plates is not a safety issue.
