PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATES

While working in CA long ago, saw a plate that read 91/2 (don't recall how) on a parked convertable. Not being in a hurry. I waited around a bit until the driver showed back up. She was right!

When I lived in PA, I saw a plate that read PKW III. I was close to home, and he turned onto a side road, so I followed. He had the inspiration parked in the yard. WWII German Panzer Kampfwagen (tank) III.

Caj, did ya order the plate yet?

There is a beautiful blonde in my area driving a Porsche with the plate: WAS HIS.
You beat me to it.

Years ago I met a woman who got divorced and all she wanted was the Porsche.

Over the course of time I have had many personalized plates.

NY allows 8 spaces so you can get creative.

My last personalized plate was VETTE2GO, It was on the avatar picture here of my last Vette. One of these days I should change the picture!

There are some really cool ones out there. I used to have custom plates but got rid of them for a bunch of reasons.

First off, I did not want to help anyone "track" me. I used to get the "oh - I saw your car at this place or that place yesterday". For no other reason than I did not care for that.

Secondly, the State I used to live in started really taking advantage of the cost. I had personalized HOG plates for my MC and they banged me twice - one for the personalization and the other for the HOG plates. It really rubbed me the wrong way.

I went back to regular random numbered plates and no longer give a hoot about the vanity plates.

When I got my Jaguar XKR Coupe, the second favorite question* about it was "So, what will your custom plate say?" They were shocked when I told them I was going to use the same random plate that had lived on the previous car.

Some plates don't get picked up as quickly as you might think. Lady at a workplace I visited had a Golf GTI, wearing the plate, GOLF GTI. She said that even the DMV were surprised that it wasn't already issued when she asked for it.

* Want to know what the #1 question was about the XKR? I bet most of you are thinking "How much?" or "What'll it do?". Nope. #1 question was "How come it doesn't have a sunroof?". Bloody heathens.
