I bought this last night, and it has a little bit local of history. It was carried the last two Chief Deputies of the Oconee County Georgia Sheriff's Office. I bought it from the current Chief Deputy, who bought it from his predecessor, who had bought it new.

It's 28-2 in 4" with a five digit N- prefix serial number, N743** . It's been carried a good amount, but not shot too much. It currently has a Wolff reduced power main spring and hammer return springs, but he gave me the original factory springs in case I want to reinstall them.

Congratulations on the purchase and that was made in late 1971 to early 1972.

It is nice to have one with local LE history. See if you can get some of the paperwork, if available, from the Chief Deputy. Sometimes they don't need it and then destroy it. That happened to my local PD issued 28-2. Nobody kept the paper records when they went to computers. At least they stamped the gun. I did meet the retired officer who carried it. Never did ask him why he sold it.

I also have 2 1/2" 66-1 that was the off duty gun for another local PD officer. He scratched his name on the frame under the cylinder, it doesn't show unless you open the cylinder. It's OK, it was his gun.

I would say it was carried but not drawn from the holster much, as there is very little wear on the muzzle. I know on my various duty guns, the bluing is worn off the muzzles from constant drawing, from either shooting, qualifications, etc or practice holsters draws. Congrats on an excellent revolver and find. Joe

Congratulations - I love having a revolver with history and even better yet, knowing its history. Very nice looking Highway Patrolman!!!

Both those were my Chief Deputies, the retired former owner, and the current owner who sold it....
Both are great peace officers, and I obviously have trusted them with my life, and the Office of the Sheriff...
I go back to 1978 with the retired CD, and 11 years with my "new" CD....
It's a fine 28....and the time frame is right. The retired Chief bought that in 73 or so when he went to work for the Georgia DNR...later he went to Athens PD where we met...

Very, very nice! good score. I like the LE weapons. Seems like they are old veteran friends. Seems that they have served a good purpose. I have one, it is a 65-4 4" and I love it. Marked WCS 2754 below the cylinder on the left side of the frame. It's a lot cooler to know the actual history though. I tried to track mine down and ran into several brick walls.
Again, congratulations!!
Peace,
gordon
