Good morning, all.
I apologize up front for this rather long post.
After several day of waiting I finally got to take a gander at a 6906 a gentleman had listed. We met yesterday and I was able to take a good look at it and I liked what I saw. Square trigger guard that I prefer, no Novaks, but I am fine with the standard sights. I'd have liked to have the original box but that's a just a quirk of mine. I'd rate the pistol at very good with only a few marks on the right hand side of the slide below the front sight being the only detractors.
The gentleman stated he was selling the pistol for an elderly friend of his who had bought the 6906 for her husband some time in the 90s. Her husband had passed away and she is unable to work the action so she has switched to a revolver. Although he could not confirm a definite round count, the seller gladly admitted he had fired at least 100 rounds through the 6906 with no issues to test the action and magazine feeding.
Everything looked good so I said I'd take it. I pay the seller and start to take the pistol when he hands me a small pistol case and a Bianchi holster at no extra charge. I thought that was a pretty nice gesture. The case is a simple two pistol and I can always find a use for them. The holster is a simple IWB with a clip. Nothing extravagant but it fits the square trigger guard and that's good enough for me.
Even though the seller advised me he had given the pistol a thorough clean and lube I thought it best when I got home to strip it and do those things myself. It was clean, no doubt, and to my eye appears to have a fairly low round count. He seemed to have been a bit free with the oil, though, and had even oiled the magazines. A bit of time with alcohol, microfiber rags, and Ballistol had the 6906 where I wanted it.
I went to my mom and dad's and put some 115 grain FMJ and 124 grain JHP through a few milk jugs and coffee cans. The 6906 handled both with aplomb. With everything looking good I holstered up and carried the rest of the day. The Bianchi does not have a reinforced mouth so holstering isn't especially easy, but it's quite comfortable and stays in place.
All in all I am quite happy with the purchase and the 6906 has joined my carry rotation.
Take care.
Aaron
