Thought I'd share my recent aquisitions and see how you guys think I did.

I picked up a 442 (right) this weekend, private sale for $250.

Then.............today,

I picked up a 642 (left), private sale for $280.

Both sellers provided concealed carry info along with me providing mine to them and we exchanged a bill of sale on each transaction. I feel pretty good about the two deals.

I shot the 442 and loved it, can't wait to shoot the 642!

I do have a question and forgive me for asking one that I know has been asked here before. What is the difference between the 442 and 642 other than the finish and material of the barrel and cylinder?

Nice. I love my classic 36 and my 442. They're both fun to shoot. That's a lovely set you have there and they are crazy accurate if you do your part.
Nice job!

You better make sure you have a FFL call both purchases in.

Yep, plan to. I don't anticipate any issues. Sellers were people that I met through some friends of mine and I got matching boxes to each. I thought it was a little weird that I was able to pick up the two days apart, but hey, things work out sometimes.

That is a nice set.Defiantely NOT NEW YORK where there are no private sales,All Handguns must be bought thru a FFL and each one must be recorded on your individual license. As such every handgun's Serial # is checked to make sure it is not stolen.Have to love those states where FTF transactions are legal but you have to wonder how many "warm" guns have changed hands over the years LOL

Only thing you did wrong imo was exchanging information. Especially in this day and age cold J-frames are a real prize.

I don't mind exchanging information as long as it's in both directions. I happen to live where FTF transactions are perfectly legal, a bill of sale is recommended. I always call my local PD for an NICS check if I happen to make a FTF purchase and making that statement openly would most certainly make one a little concerned if you have a copy of his/her carry permit.

Spending a few extra minutes getting to know a person prior to a FTF transaction is extremely valuable.

Was this sale INTRAstate? If so why go thru an FFL? Maybe some states require it, I understand. I've done it numerous times without going thru an FFL.

Ahh, you answered my question as I was 1 finger typing. :o

In state transactions. I wouldn't attempt to do a FTF with someone in another state or someone from another state. I'm almost positive that you would break the law if a handgun was involved. The risk is greater than the money that you would save. I have had an individual mail a firearm from another state to my FFL after I went to look at what I was buying.

The paint color on the frame is different and the 642 usually has a Stainless cylinder and barrel.

Prices are about $100 under market in Fl. where private handgun sale is 100% legal between 2 Fl residents 21 & over.

We also have a State wide concealed carry permit,
We do have a cooling off period but its waved if you have a CCW permit.....
