Pictorial of making crimped .38S&W shot loads

NECKING DOWN

Great thread guys.
I like to try this to sometime with some 357 brass. The question I have is why neck down the brass?
Then see if I can do the crimp part on my sdb press.

I do it so the 357 brass will fit in a .38special-- Maybe it would work without necking down. Might have to ry that. Did make a .38 special shot shell using a 35 caliber gas check. Have yet to see if this works. Only did this because I have a few thousand of these on hand. :)

SPEER UPDATE

Had the occasion to view some CCI factory 38 shot shells this morning-- even though directions said to 'crimp; as normal, there was NO detectable crimp in the CCI shells-- maybe I will try and back off the crimp and see. Would be nice to use these as I have several boxes.

My favorite part of the original post is using toilet paper for the wad. If it patterns that well using TP why change?

357 MAX brass Loads up-date

Well, I received some brass from a fine member today, THANKS Jim-- my first attempt was not quite up to snuff. Even after the final crimp, brass ws still just a tad too long to fit. I have 19 more pcs to try and see if it will work. Bext attempt will be to neck down the brass a bit. That may do the trick. More later on this. Will say, all looked good, just a tad long. Am thinking the necking down will work :)
