Does the picture reflect mismatching parts? It's .38 special, but I can't tell what it is.

It's a really nice pre-Model 10 from the mid 1950s. The number under the yoke is an assembly number.

Mid 50's Military & Police model. Very nice condition from what I can see. Not sure what you're thinking is mismatched, unless you're referring to the pesky assembly number, which has no significance once it leaves the factory. The grips might not be original to the gun, but are at least period correct. Good shootin',
Doug

P.S. The ramp front sight came along in about 1952. If there is no upper side plate screw, it's probably post 1955.

That's precisely what confused me, the assembly number.

Does anyone care to venture an estimate of how much would be a good price? I think he has it priced too high, but with a forgiving layaway it's mitigated.

I appreciate any insights, I'm really green here.

I gave $430 for a 1951 in excellent condition about three weeks ago, for what it's worth.

Having said that, I looked at your photos again and the lighting makes it difficult to tell but that one may have the post 1956 high gloss blue finish. Mine has the post war brushed blue. Not sure if that makes a difference in the price.

The stocks look correct, but almost too nice. Check the back of the right one for the matching serial. If it's there, the gun is probably worth 500. I don't even see a turn line. If no matching stock serial, use that to bargain them down ;)

They were original and I talked him down to $350.
