On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rank the M&P40C as a conceal carry handgun?

On the basis of what?

Its fine. Small, light, carries a good caliber.

Personally i dont like them (M&Pc)

By itself 5-6. For me 0.

I'd rate the 9c an 8.5. Not a fan of .40 caliber (I carry the 9c in 9mm).

That's of course based on my own needs and criteria. You've told us nothing of your requirements, how you plan to carry, body type, etc.

Here is some more info.
I am 6' about 220lbs.
I live in Wisconsin, so most of the year I wear a unbuttoned flannel shirt.
I would carry IWB most often, and open carry when at the cabin.

Hard to do, but I'd rank my M&P40c somewhere around eight. I like it a lot but carry a M642 most of the time. The j-frame is a solid ten around town IMO. If I'm going in the woods I prefer to carry a M&P45, so my 40c has been pretty lonely. Poor little guy, now I feel bad. :o

I carry a 9c every day (it's the same size as the 40), I'm about the same size (a little heavier). I use an OWB Blade Tech holster and either a short sleeved shirt or flannel shirt unbuttoned. I have the holster set at the highest position and have no problem carrying concealed. When it gets colder I use a Carhartt vest that has an inside pocket that fits the c perfectly. I don't use the mags with the pinky extension, they seem to screw up the concealed part.

It's my carry gun. & I'd rate it a 10. That being said, no one here can answer this question for you. Sure, I can say my 40c always works, doesn't have the mag problem some 40 Shields have etc, but the most important fact is how it fits in your hand, so go to a LGS & try one. For years I carried a Glock 27, & later on a 30 because of their reputation, but it wasn't the most comfortable gun to hold. The 40c feels like my hand was used as the mold. Many gun ranges have rental guns, so try one out. Believe it or not, after I got the 40c, I sold my HK USP compact, as I no longer needed it to carry, but I won't repeat that on the HK forum. But just because it's comfortable in my hand, doesn't mean it will be for you. But I do trust my life with it, & it's a reason I don't buy a Shield, as I find it too slim. GARY

Hahahaha, I got rid of my H&K USP Compact too, but in favor of the XDs 45. I liked that H&K, it was bi-tone just like my XDs, but by today's standards the H&K just wasn't all that compact anymore so it had to go as I didn't need another range type gun.

As far as the 40C for CCW, for me no- that's what my PM9 is for. For you it sounds like maybe an 8-9 on your scale. At your size you can easily carry it and the versatility of the 40C is second to none in the M&P line. With mine All I need to do now is order the .357 Sig barrel and I'll have a three caliber gun that carries well enough, is great for nightstand duty, and a fun range plinker too.

I think it is a fine carry weapon. I didn't care for the way it felt in my hand or I would've bought one. I like the number of rounds etc., but the thing was just too thick for me to wrap my paw around. Felt like half my hand was hanging off it.

Tried a Shield during my CCW class and loved it. (I guess that's because it is thinner than the Compact.) So that's what I eventually bought.

It's a great CC gun. I'd give it a solid 9 (only because it's a little heavy for me in a day long scenario). At work, I carry a Shield 9. Any other time, it's usually the compact.

I'd rate it an 8-8.5, great gun, but the Shield works better for a carry gun. When you're new to CCW, some guys get enthusiastic and carry te biggest gun they can (I was one of em), then you get tired of that and want something you barely notice yet feel confident in it's capabilities should it be needed, ala M&P Shield.

M&P40c?

I'll give it a 9.5.

It's light, powerful, small, easy to carry and ergonomically beautiful. Multiple backstraps fit it to your hand. It can quickly be made to fire 9mm or .357. It can carry full-size mags. What's not to love?

Shorter than the Shield, but a tad thicker. For that little bit of thickness you get a lot more rounds of firepower.

I've never had a failure with any M&P FS or Compact. I'd carry one to save my life any day..

.

I conceal carry a mp40c and love it. I will give it a 10 because I love it and it works well for me. I also carry the mags with the pinky extension with no problem. I carry OWB with a raven phantom holster. A good holster like the raven phantom will make all the difference in the world. The mp40c is a great all around gun. Not sure weather you are wanting to carry IWB or OWB but as I said it works great for me OWB. Also if you don't have a lean and slender build an OWB may work best for you. I've seen it to be a problem for a person to make a quick draw if he carries IWB and has a bit of a roll in the way.

My paws are too big for the compact (size 11+ gloves). I have owned three and carried them in an inside pocket of my Carhart vest. I sold all of them and now carry a 625PC or a 627PC "at the cabin" and a pro 60 in my vest. I still own two M&Ps that I carry occasionally. The M&Pc with the thumb safety and no mag safety was my favorite before I sold it. The 40 or 357 sig are my favored pistol calibers. I am working on wearing out the 625PC if possible. :)

For me, it did not withdraw from a pocket as easily as the Glock 27. For my purposes, if I need a belt holster, I want gun that is more "duty size" as opposed to back-up or compact size.

I love my 40c;it was my CC weapon till I got my Shield 40, & I still carry it some times. The Shield is a little easier to conceal, but the 40c trumps the Shield just about everywhere else. With a full size magazine & an X-grip Extender it's a great night stand gun.:cool:

I agree with regard to the 9c vs. the Shield. If the Shield were small enough to pocket carry, I might see the advantage, but unfortunately, it isn't.

Full size only

I'm 5'9''/185 lbs. and have no difficulty concealing the M&P40 "full size". I don't have large hands, but find the grip just right (with the small palm swell attached). The only compact gun I own is a J-frame Airweight 637 which is on my left side as a "New York reload". I do have grip tape on the 40.

It's a solid 9 for me...

Here's my 2c and then some....

1. Easily concealable.
2. Accurate.
3. Simple to operate.
4. Ambidextrous.
5. Swappable backstraps.
6. Will accept full size magazines (15 rounds in .40)(17 in 9mm).
7. Will easily convert to 9mm or 357Sig calibers.
8. Has accessory rail.
9. Lots of accessories available for M&P's.
10. It's a Smith & Wesson :D.

-1 for the sights. +1 when I get my Truglow TFO's.
