Having not posted anything in awhile + being very bored at work (don't tell the boss), I thought I would try to start a discussion for you guys…

Are windows on PMAG worth the extra couple bucks? At first glance, I would say absolutely, you can see how many rounds you have left and that's a tactical advantage…not to mention it looks cool. However, I'm not a Navy SEAL, and if the "shiz hit the fan," and I was actually returning fire to save my life, I'm rather confident that I wouldn't even have the mental fortitude to look at my mag and plan accordingly. I would be spraying and praying and waiting for the bolt to catch open. Plus, checking your mag would take your eyes off your target which seems non-advisable.

So then I think, we'll if you're at the range it's nice to know how many rounds are in the mag… well, at the range it doesn't really matter if you run out of ammo before you make that last kill shot to your paper target.

So then I think, what about hunting? If I'm bush-whacking for rabbits it would be good to know if I need to change before that next fur covered target pops out… well, don't the windows stop at 5 rounds left? 5 rounds are probably enough for one rabbit encounter and I'm not going to change.

I know it looks like I'm obviously bias towards one side of the argument, but really I'm just curious to hear what you guys think. Most of you shoot a lot more than I do, and are thus much more qualified to give an educated opinion. Also, many here have military experience and could give some very real and pertinent experience. If you were going to buy a large amount of magazines, assuming you were going to buy PMAG I guess, would you spend the extra cash for windows? Why?

My personal choice is that they dont matter. I know how many I load in each magazine and dont really pay that much attention anyway. I have one PMag and 14 military mags all 30 rounders, I only have 3 of them loaded with 25 rounds a piece. I have 1 Milsurp and 2 Thermold 20 round mags. I keep these all loaded with 15 rounds a piece and do almost all of my shooting with them. I am sure for some people windows are important. On my AR they are not. Now the openings on the sides of my pistol mags are a different story. the things I hunt for and the way I hunt I rarely use more than one shot, sometimes a follow up is necessary but not often. So round count isnt important to me but this is just my Opinion and Others may look at it differently, especially the guys running the carbine courses or 3 gun competition.

I am neither for nor against apathy. Just kidding, and good idea for a summer doldrums thread. I might try to get one or two if they were on sale; but would not spend a lot extra to get them. Like said; at the range, when I run empty, I run empty. Having not bought one yet, can you see the window when the mag is in the gun ?????

IMHO, no. I have a bunch of P-mags, but only one with a window and they all are good, just don't see the need for the extra cost.
Yes, you can see the window with it in the rifle.

I pay only an extra $1 for the window version. Personally the window doesn't matter. I ask for PMags and whatever they hand me I take.

The old adage is: "Its better to have it and not need it than needing it but don't have it.

Also depends upon your finances. If couple of bucks will mean no food in the table then get the windowless Pmags. Just my 0.02 cents.
