Having not posted anything in awhile + being very bored at work (don't tell the boss), I thought I would try to start a discussion for you guys…
Are windows on PMAG worth the extra couple bucks? At first glance, I would say absolutely, you can see how many rounds you have left and that's a tactical advantage…not to mention it looks cool. However, I'm not a Navy SEAL, and if the "shiz hit the fan," and I was actually returning fire to save my life, I'm rather confident that I wouldn't even have the mental fortitude to look at my mag and plan accordingly. I would be spraying and praying and waiting for the bolt to catch open. Plus, checking your mag would take your eyes off your target which seems non-advisable.
So then I think, we'll if you're at the range it's nice to know how many rounds are in the mag… well, at the range it doesn't really matter if you run out of ammo before you make that last kill shot to your paper target.
So then I think, what about hunting? If I'm bush-whacking for rabbits it would be good to know if I need to change before that next fur covered target pops out… well, don't the windows stop at 5 rounds left? 5 rounds are probably enough for one rabbit encounter and I'm not going to change.
I know it looks like I'm obviously bias towards one side of the argument, but really I'm just curious to hear what you guys think. Most of you shoot a lot more than I do, and are thus much more qualified to give an educated opinion. Also, many here have military experience and could give some very real and pertinent experience. If you were going to buy a large amount of magazines, assuming you were going to buy PMAG I guess, would you spend the extra cash for windows? Why?
