Prayer request please for Laura

My wife went through thyroid cancer surgery and following radioactive iodine treatments. That was 43 years ago. This took her thyroid and she takes a synthetic thyroid pill every day. This is generally a very treatable kind of cancer even if it does pop up again.

Keep the faith Laura! This to shall pass...prayers for you and your family that all is well soon.

I'll put in a good word for her with the Big Trail Boss in the sky.

Laura, be strong and get well soon.

Prayers going up from SC. Good news -- it's a local call.

I had my thyroid ablated(?) with a radioactive pill a few years back. I found it hilarious, after all the warnings, that I could swallow a radioactive pill...but only directly from the lead-lined case and not using my own hand to pop the pill. Really, really?

Same here Badger! I have Grave's Disease and did the radioactive thing as well. It was very unique experience to say the least! While it was all very serious I couldn't help but laugh through it.

Morning of treatment:
go to hospital and locate the Nuclear Med area (by the morgque. Really? No one else on the floor which happens to be the basement?!)
To into office, everyone happy, cheery, knows you by name instantly! (wait, there's no one else there other than staff)

Go into room, lined in lead. Staff member comes in also covered in lead. Staff person opens led canister and dumps out smaller lead canister and then dumps 2 pills into paper cup. (all while wearing lead gloves, which go with the entire lead suit.) At this point I realize I'm the only one/thing in the room not protected by lead. Person hands you cup and says "Take this but don't touch it" and leaves quickly. What?! OK, swallow pills and walk out of room.

Leaving: No one around. The office has turned into a ghost town and then you have to walk out and past the morgue again and go straight home because hey, you're now radioactive and get be near ANYONE or ANYTHING with a heartbeat! for DAYS!

The worst part for me was the diet before hand to clear my thyroid of iodine. Now *that* was brutal! Being radioactive was amusing. ;)

Here's hoping she makes it through the diet and that all the treatments do the trick and she's healthy! It *will* take time for the doctors to get the dosage of her replacement meds just right so she'll have some ups and downs. (can take a year or 2 easily). She should also learn to be alert to changes that can be related to her levels. I was stable for about 15 years and am now having to go through readjustments. The symptoms I was having we chalked up to just getting older and working more but finally the blood work showed the truth and that my dosage was no longer adequate.

Just spoke with youngest sister Mary, Lauras mom. She's at Lauras house to help comfort.

They are overwhelmed and amazed at your caring.

Can't thank you all, Y'all, enough.:)

I knew you'd come through, and ya did!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!

Prayers and thoughts are sent.

I had 1/3 of my thyroid removed. By one of the presidents ear, nose and throat doctors. 40 years later I'm ok. Had a baseball sized tumor choking me.

Don't worry she's going to be ok.

Prayers from Illinois for Laura, I had a recent battle with cancer myself and I may be battling it again soon so she has my complete and total sympathy and my compassion.

My prayers are with you, Rimfired, and especially with Laura and her doctors. I have marked the 14th on my calendar so that I do remember that day especially.
