How common is a pre-27 5 screw with 4" barrel and what is rough estimate of worth in 98% condition with original grips?

It would be worth BIG bucks if it lettered.
I have never heard of one.
I think you are looking at a 3-1/2". If truly 4", I would be very cautious, suspecting a rebarrel.

Thanks Lee. A friend sent an email telling me about it and said it looks to have a 4" barrel with red ramp front sight, 5 screw frame and "S" serial. I'm awaiting photos.

If we're betting, my guess/bet is that your friend measured from the frame to the end of the barrel, and its a 5"er.

Jim Supica has one listed on his webb site and I believe there are pictures of a four inch on this forum.

I am talking about a 5 screw gun. Yes, they made many 4 inch 27's, AFTER they dropped the 3-1/2" and the 5". Figured the 4 would cover both those.
I have never heard of a legit 5-screw POST war with a 4".

That's right. The only thing close would be a registered or unregistered magnum that could have been ordered with a 4" barrel. Chances are that it's been rebarreled.

I was talking about a post war, "S" serial numbered, 5-screw, 4" barreled gun that letters.

I guess you guys haven't been paying attention over the past few years. This gun has been shown before, it letters to Rex Firearms in 1956, and was Bobby137's before it was mine, and is (unfortunately) his again....

I miss this gun, it is truly a cool piece.
Big bucks? Probably, since Lee hasn't even heard of one then it must be priceless.....

I SHOULD have known better!
Now, I'll be looking for 4-1/2 and 5-1/2 Pre-27's..........
