Any opinions on the going rate for a NIB .38 DA, nickel, think it's a 5". Hard rubber stocks. Don't have a serial # yet so not sure which model though it might be a 5th Model. All I have is one picture that I cannot post nor can I tell if the FS is pinned or not.

Interior of box looks good, hinge might be intact but not sure of the color but might be the reddish-brown the SCS&W mentions. TIA

That's weird. Just tried it again, here at work and it allowed me to save and upload the photo. At home last night it did not give me that option?

Anyway, here it is.

Richard,
It is not a five inch barrel. It looks more like a 3 1/4 inch which is more common. The box does not look right for a 4th or 5th model double action. It should have Double Action with the barrel length in block letters above the directions in the lid. It should also have an end label with information about the gun on the end of the box unless it is a very, very early box (like 20 years before the time frame of this gun). It is hard to tell if the gun has been refinished from this picture, but if I were going to bid on it I'd get an email from the seller saying that it is original or you can return it for a full refund. If that is the original finish it is a beauty. As far as value, find out if it is a 4th or 5th model as the 4th model is much more common and does not command as high a price in my experience.

Thanks for the info. This would be an auction I would attend in person. The barrel just looked kind of long to my eye however I'm not experienced in these earler S&W at all. Just looked longer than a 4". There are other early guns as well so perhaps the box is actually for one of the other firearms. Thanks again
