Our Cubmaster departed on short notice, and I've been informed that I'm now in charge of the Arrow of Light and Bridging (to Boy Scouts) ceremonies next week. I've found some stuff on the net, but I wondered it any of you had any ceremonies that I might be able to steal and/or adapt.

Thanks in advance,
Herk

i've got to run the wife to work. When I get back, I'll go through my notes. I've done it several ways over 25 years. (Although mostly from the Boy Scout side)

I can't really add anything to the those two excellent links fitz posted above. On the bridging ceremony, it is almost essential to have the bridge. We've done it several ways, from having a bridge lashed together with @3" poles, cut from cedar brush cleared at the Scout reservation, to marking it out on the floor with duct tape and traffic cones. (And ALL manner of gadjets in between) The main thing to remember is to make the Scout feel special, as it is all about them. All the pomp and ceremony won't make up for making them feel rushed or like your put out doing it.A simple ceremony that leaves them with their chest sticking out and pride in their new neckerchief will be the most remembered. If you need to, feel free to email me and we'll talk.

Hey men, I don't really have anything to add except thanks to all of you who give your time and energy to be Scout leaders.

Russ, a former First Class Scout

I'll send you our Crossover ceremony. We had a nice one this year with the Order of the Arrow Scouts participating and sending the cubs who crossed over out from the ceremony in canoes to their new scout troops who received them across the lake.

Guys, wow! Once again, you guys have proven that most folks around here are top notch.

Sharf, got your e-mail--thanks.
Jim, good points. I hope I didn't come across as "put out" when I asked my question. I'm just worried about not doing a good job. My kid's a Tiger, and we have very little interaction with the Webelos.
Fitz, thanks for the links.

Much appreciated, gents.

My son is a weblo. He will cross over next year. I enjoy the crossing over ceremonies and the pine car derbies about as much as anything I can think of. One year, we had a crossover ceremony on the bank of the Cumberland river. The Arrow of Light Boy Scouts came across the river in a canoe, dressed in their finest Indian attire. There was a large bonfire where we had some gentlemen from the VFW dispose of our tattered flags. It was a very enjoyable night. As someone already stated, thank you for taking the time to be part of such a great organization.
