Question to conceal carry holders...

In Colorado no course of fire required. Carry any handgun you want and as many as you want. I'm big on "shall not" but without military or LEO training I think course fire is good common sense. Frankly I'm uncomfortable around anyone with a firearm who doesn't have military training. Nothing like a Drill Sgt (Drill Instructor for the Marines) explaining it to you. Sorry to say my Drill Sgt seemed to always have his foot in my *** (and everyone else); I seemed to have had a better attention span.

Everyone should enjoy the opportunity to name your weapon with your favorite girl's name and then sleep with it in the middle of winter in a canvas tent dug into the snow with a candle burning to keep the humidity from turning your tent into a block of ice. :D

I actually enjoyed boot camp. So much so that every now and then I would smile while the drill sergeant was screaming in my face and that would get him so mad I would end up doing hundreds of push-ups and became an automatic volunteer for the worst duties he could dream up. He wanted to break me but I knew it was just him doing his job and I actually enjoyed the entire experience!

Oklahoma has a course of fire. Semi-auto will qualify for semi-auto, revolver and derringer. Each of the others only qualify for that type. Most instructors provide .22 semi-auto so that their students get all three endorsements.

I'm not real sure about Missouri's requirements, but I will find out tomorrow at 9:00am because that is when I'm going for the course. I'll get back with some facts. wish me luck!

Kansas

Kansas CCH requires a course of fire, 18 hits of 25 rounds shot at 3, 7 and 10 yards. You can qualify with any handgun and carry any handgun. An 8-hour training class including the range time is required to apply for your license.

In Tennessee you can shoot whatever you want for qualifying. The course of fire is 48 rounds on a B27 silhoutte target. Any round that strikes the black counts as a hit. Passing score of 70% or better is required. There are 12 rounds fired at 5 yards, 12 rounds at 7 yards, 12 rounds at 15 yards, then back again with 12 rounds at 7 yards. There were some in my class who shot .22 lr handguns.

Once you receive your Handgun Carry Permit you may carry any handgun you wish to carry, and you are not limited to the gun you qualified with.

It's been so long since I qualified for my "Carry Permit" I had forgotten what the qualifying course requirements were!! I just remember that my brother-in-law and I went together...he used a .22 L/R Rimfire and I used a Colt Commander in .45acp and scored higher than he did....I like to remind him of that.:D

The Great State of New York, has no live fire training required.
Imagine that, I guess it's hard enough and takes long enough to get a carry permit, they figure you don't really need to know how to shoot. You must show that you put a deposit down on a gun, but you cannot touch a handgun without the permit, go figure. Each handgun you want to carry has to be listed on your permit, by filing an amendment, before you may possess the gun.

No live firing in NH. Just go and apply at the police station. Cost me $10.

Jhawk412 gave a good rundown of the way it is in Kansas. I'm curious about the fees charged in other states. A CCW class in Kansas can cost anywhere from $35 to $185 depending on who you use. Both the wife and I attended classes offered through the Parks and Rec Deptartment in Topeka, cost was $35 each and included donuts in the morning and pizza for lunch.

Once you have successfully completed the class you take your paperwork to your county Sheriff's office. You have to write a $100 check to the state and a $50 check to the sheriff. These fees are non-refundable, get turned down for the permit and you are just out the money. Then wait for approval from the state. May take 90 days.

Once you are approved you have to take the state issued paperwork to a drivers license examining station. Only certain stations will process CCW permits. I had to drive 30 miles one way to get to one. Pay them $16, they take your picture and issue a temporary thermal print permit. Sometime in the next 2 weeks you should get your regular permit in the mail.

Long process but worth it. I was just wondering if the process is that much different in other states.

Ha Ha Ha!!! You were wondering if it was different in other states???

Well some states you don't need a permit at all.
Some states you pay the local law $10 and he hands you a permit.
Some states you send in your documents and $50 and wait a month.
Some states you take a lot of training, fill out a mountain of paperwork, turn in paperwork at one office, then get more paperwork and turn that in at the sheriff's office, wait for him to send you more paperwork, take that paperwork to another office and wait for that office to approve you, then receive back all paperwork and turn it in to the state and wait a few months to see if it goes through.

So yep, there's some major differences out there. But I see the House passed the national reciprocity bill. Let's hope that thing gets into the senate and then BO signs it into law. That will make life a lot easier for all of us!!!!

Rumor has it that this is all they can handle in Canada.

In Indiana no courses needed. Carry whatever you want. 100 bucks for a lifetime personal protection permit.

That's what we do in Indiana, pay a hundred bucks for the little pink CCW card and your good to go. For life.

As far as " I think a pass/fail rating is a very good ideal also. It is just being responsible." OR "My personal opinion is that there should be some live fire course with a pass/fail rating. "

I think you should take a test before you vote, or before you can print your opinion in the newspaper.... we wouldn't want to be irresponsible in exercising a constitutional right.

There is a course of fire in Missouri plus class time. Can use any pistol/revolver, carry any pistol/revolver.

In Texas, I shot for qualification with a rented 9MM semiauto but I own only 4 revolvers. Like the previous poster said, if you qualify with a SA you can carry either, if with a revolver then your CHL is valid only for a revolver. I think the minimum calibre is 32 or above, not sure. I have 2 38's a 44 Spl and a 45.
The CHL is valid only for handguns, no other weapon, and no limit on the number as long as one can conceal them.:)

N C handgun safety course and course on laws governing CC then to the range 80% of 50 rounds at 7 yds. pay the instructor something like 100- 125 bucks and the 80 to county sheriff which includes fingerprints and all checks and then about 70 to 90 days you get your permit if that is you haven't been denied. Time frame 0f 70-90 days depends on how busy the cc permit system is. Good for 5 years. Renewal is only 70 dollars and no fingerprints as long as you haven't let it expire. If you have then you start all over. You can as far as I know use anything to qualify and not restricted to any particular gun for carry.

I kinda skimmed through the posts so if this has been posted....sorry!

Pa is "shall issue" no courses of any kind are needed. If you can pass a background check and have $50 you have a permit for 5 years. Carry whatever handgun you like. Open carry is OK but Philadelphia frowns upon this...BIG TIME

SC , most courses are $125, and runs pretty similar to the NRA course, with SC laws taught, of course. Then you send in papers with 450, and wait 2-5 months. Last couple of years it's been running about 4 months, simply due to the number of applications they get. Thank the Lord, lotsa good folks are getting permits- let's just hope they know what they're doing, cause the CC course is surely not enough. The lady beside me when we shot that part of the course- was about 70, using a revolver she couldn't load. Instructor helped her with every shot, but she still managed to hit my target once.

GF I know you meant your comment in jest, but I DO think there should be a test to vote.

Listen to the reasons some people vote for their choice... They may be voting the party line, or they may have read something and heard the candidate stood for ONE issue they like. One gal I knew voted because the guy had nicer hair than the other.

And 24spencer,
I think guns are totally banned in Mexico. That really keeps the crime down there doesn't it... Gun bans scare me!
