Question to Mass gun guys on ammo

I live in Vt near the Mass border and would like to ship some ammo to a friend in Michigan. The closest UPS Customer Center is in Mass. Is it a violation of any of their state laws for me to ship from Mass?
I tried to look this up and found nothing. Any help is appreciated.

It's not a violation per se for you to ship ammo from MA, but unless you have a MA concealed carry permit, it's extremely difficult for you to avoid committing a MA felony for simply possessing ammo in MA. Without a MA concealed carry permit, you can possess rifle ammo *if* if you also have the rifle chambered for it. No rifle to go with it, it's a felony. It's not possible for you to legally possess pistol ammo in MA as an out-of-stater without having a MA concealed carry permit. Your friend in MI will probably have to fend for himself. Or you can drive to a UPS center in VT. MA is the most screwed-up state there is for guns and ammo - they've done all they can do to criminalize possession of ammo, even possession of an empty spent casing will land you in jail.

Not surprised, thanks for the warning. I hunt Mass every year but always have the shotgun or rifle to match the ammo.

To the best of my knowledge the bolded part is incorrect. You can not possess any firearm or ammunition in MA without at least a MA Firearms ID card. You don't need a License To Carry Firearms for low capacity rifles, but you do need an FID. Which means that generally out of state residents can not bring rifles in to MA. Or shotguns for that matter.

If that's a part of the game laws, I'd like to see a citation. I don't hunt in MA, so I'm not current on the game laws.

A non resident LTC is $100.00 per year, requires an in person interview in Chelsea, MA, and is discretionary. Which means that there is no guarantee that they will issue you one.

I've never heard of a non resident FID card, but I suppose that's possible.

As a non-resident I buy a hunting license every year for deer season at the same gun shop. According to the shop owner I have to buy my ammo in Vt but can hunt Mass otherwise. The LTC you refer to is for handguns, I don't believe anything is needed for shoguns.
