Hi guys,

I picked up this 25-2 from a local bullseye shooter who planned to shoot it in bullseye and never got around to it. It was so nice I purchased it.

I'm curious about the front sight. Is that a factory modification or was it an aftermarket mod? I don't think it's painted. It looks like the front sight has been cut out and then filled with some kind of orange material. I'm not sure though.

Also, could someone please help me out with a manufacture date? Thanks much,
Dave

Ranch Products sells the moon clips in bulk. They also have the best price.

RIMZ has a polymer moon clip. Pricey but lots of fans as they don’t eed tools to load and unload them.

StarLine sells 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim brass.

Recipes are plentiful but it was originally set up for hardball and I find mine to be most accurate with loads that approach those ballistics.

So, you have a bunch of options for getting that revolver up and running.

I'm curious about the front sight. Is that a factory modification or was it an aftermarket mod? I don't think it's painted. It looks like the front sight has been cut out and then filled with some kind of orange material.

A very common gunsmith modification to front sights in order to give the iron sight more visibility: as demonstrated here.

Odd, the handful of old school bullseye shooters I knew (guys that owned Giles and Clarks) would've preferred a completely blacked out sight setup. They'd keep a small butane Bic cigarette lighter in their shooters box in order to apply black soot to the front sight in order to darken it. But I guess everyone's focus is different on that front sight.

I guess I've never seen a 25-2 without a barrel pin. Very interesting!
Mike
P.S. I just looked in "the book" and saw they were made until 1988 when the 25-6 showed up so they would have for quite a while assuming the numbering jumped from -2 to -6.

Yeah, that's me too. I have several S&W's with red front sights and I use a magic marker on all of them to black out the red. I thought it was just me and my old eyesight.

That bulleye shooters blacking technique is great on a sunny outdoor range, shooting at a known distance and a sharp target. The red is great in the woods. Horses for courses, as they say. Or used to. :)

Not to rain on the parade, but measure the throats. They are often 456 or so. Not good for accuracy with 452 bullets.

My 25-2 is pinned. Camera does not do the finish on this gun any justice. Former steward of this gun shot bowling pin compeitition with it.

And this 625-2 (top) makes me (kinda) look like I know what I'm doing.
