We have all heard various quotes in our lives which have influenced us in subtle ways. Ways which affect the choices we have made in life. Something as simple as, do I have a coke with my lunch or a glass of water instead. An example of such a quote is: "A penny saved is a penny earned."

I'm fairly sure we all have heard such quotes in our lives so I'd like to start this thread with one that has influenced me. I'd like everyone to share some you know with the rest of us? It could be some thing as simple as keep your finger off the trigger until you know your target and backstop.

I don't know from where this comes (perhaps me) but I do know it is one I like:

It is not the life we live which has made us poor, but rather it is the life we didn't.

Captain Penny's closing advice was, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool Mom."

I remember him on Cleveland TV, I think WEWS Channel 5. I think I have a picture of him and me around somewhere. His real name was Ron Penfound and he would dress up like an old time train engineer.

I find these words from my late Dad coming to me more often these days. (WWII and Korean War Vet)

If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing it right.
Plan your work and work your plan.
Take all you want but eat all you take. (told me it was on a sign in Navy Mess hall at Great Lakes)
If you can't say anything good about someone don't say anything at all.

My opening salvo:

"Oh Bother", said Pooh, as he punched the magazine release.

What doesn't kill you ... will circle around for a second attempt.

The big print giveth; the small print taketh away.

"Boy, if you shoot me with dat and I find out, I put you across my knee and spank hell outen you"
