I do a little work with Border Patrol related to controlling Arundo donax, Carrizo cane, along the Rio Grande. Took this pic in the Westlaco HQ.

My Mom was born and grew up in Weslaco. Dad was from Donna. Spent MANY holidays growing up at both my grandparents places down there.

Reasonably common sight around here. Pretty decent ride decked out with a cattle (deer) guard. Car was relatively new when this shot was taken several years ago. I'd estimate over half the vehicles in our county over three years old have deer scars - more than that have hail damage.

I'll stick with my drip maker.
...
Well, of course - to make hot water for the coffee you ground with your Sharps Coffee Mill Carbine!

It does appear to have boilers and taps on the back, so I'm guessing it provides hot water. The reason for the red paint suggests an emergency vehicle of some sort.

Excellent guesses! The pictured model was a coffee wagon donated by the Philadelphia Christian Commission. Each urn has a fire box at the bottom and it was estimated that 100 gallons per hour could be produced. It was painted red to distinguish it as a non-combat vehicle.

So I was sorta right. Coffee = emergency/essential service 👍

Another interesting Civil War piece of equipment. This is a mobile battery forge that was used for repairs in the field. The large structure is the bellows house. The fire pan is front of the iron heat shield and the chest at the rear carried coal. The forge would have been attached to a limber carrying the tools.

Skunk update

Back at the beginning of April I posted this pic of the now-annual arrival of a mother skunk to set up home under my gf's patio.

In the last week, she has been very busy dragging foliage under the deck and now the trail cam is filling up with pics of her new brood of five skunklets, mostly at night but they do venture out in daytime as well. She was going through several hundred pics from the last three days this afternoon and got these from today.

The cats have been cautiously curious but not troublesome, and the skunks are likewise OK with Sandra carefully tending the garden, so it's all good so far.
