Here's two kinds of fishing in Alaska. Two photos are "combat fishing" on the Kenai. The other two are why I went.

I'd never seen one of these up close! I took these at Nikiski Beach.

Those are called Jack Up rigs, the legs are lowered, the bottom of each leg has a big pad like a foot. When the foot hit the bottom and are pushed down more eventually the drilling rig lift out of the water and is not bothered by current or waves. There is a gear drive or a ratchet system on each leg to raise or lower it,

I took these from my deck a little while ago. We're a half mile from the festivities, but we have a pretty decent view of the fireworks.

The daytime photos are what our quiet beach turns into. I went for a bike ride this evening, and wound up walking it a bunch.
