A tribute to "Chumly". He loved to sleep, hunt small game, lick plastic bags, and beat up his brother. He passed away in August at 8 years of age.

A bit of a brag here. I had been after this derelict for about 10 years. I finally made a deal with the lady that owned it and trailered it down from WA to AZ. The before and after pics.

That is NOT me in the picture. It's a chap who helped me load it out.

I got distracted and missed yesterdays pics, so here is Day 3:

My favorite bird of the trip. This is the largest kingfisher in the western hemisphere, the Ringed Kingfisher. They run 16 inches from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail. We saw all three of the kingfishers while on our trip, ringed, belted and green.

I have a Canon EF 100-400 IS that is my main lens. On this particular day I had added my EF 1.4x II extender to it, making it a effective 560mm with the same close focus distance as the 400mm....

I have that same lens, probably one of the first ones Canon made. I used it to make this photo. Also had my El Cheapo Tamron 1.4 extender attached.

I like the lens, of course, except I don't like the push/pull to change focal length. And I wish it were a faster lens. I mean, f/5.6 is okay, but f/4 would be even better....

... Oh, and my favourite all around lens is Canon's 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. It pretty much stays on one of my cameras.

I just got the latest Canon 100-400 IS II and love it! This one is a twist instead of push-pull and f/4.5-5.6 Really wish I had gotten it sooner! Here's a few recent shots with it. All hand-held on a Canon 7Dmii of some deer.

And Watchdog, I agree, that 70-200 2.8 is a must have as well!
