I just got the latest Canon 100-400 IS II and love it! This one is a twist instead of push-pull and f/4.5-5.6 Really wish I had gotten it sooner! Here's a few recent shots with it. All hand-held on a Canon 7Dmii of some deer.

And Watchdog, I agree, that 70-200 2.8 is a must have as well!

I just checked the 100-400 IS II out and the price, ouch. About $600 more than I originally paid for my 100-400. I would love to get one but even after selling mine it would be too steep for me. Especially after just getting my 80D.

Yeah,I got a deal on it (about $350 off) but it still hurt! The hurt has been worth it for me though. I was shooting with an original 400 prime with no IS so it's a tremendous improvement. This thing blows the 400mm prime away! Here's a couple more shots from my 4 day photo weekend right after I got it. ;) (yes, I took 2 days off work to go play with once it arrived. :D)

These are using the lens on my Canon 7d mark ii.

Those have a crazy sharp focus! My kit lesson doesn't even come close.

.

Thank you!

What one are you shooting?

I think this is my sharpest lens which is crazy as everyone's always told me zooms are rarely as sharp as primes. This thing is INSANELY good and not too bad to lug around. (weight and size is always a concern as I hike with my gear at times) I absolutely LOVE it! I made sure I could return it when I bought it just incase I wasn't happy and, well..., it's now my main lens. ;)

You're killing me here. (Sigh) Maybe in a couple years.

My telephoto lens is the Canon EF-S 18-135 IS USM kit lens that came with my Canon 80D.

It's a nice general purpose lens but can't match the nicer lenses.

.

Yeah, the nicer stuff will hurt to buy but if you can it's worth it. Bodies will change but lenses last a LONG time!
