would like to find out when this revolver was made. I believe it to be a model 1905.

I will take photos later the ser# is 377XX and has six inch pinned barrel. numbers on frame cylinder and flat on barrel bottom all match. Blue appears original and about 90%, bore is bright and cylinder locks tight.

That is a pretty nice looking example of a .32-20 Hand Ejector. And yes, at the time it shipped (1907 or 1908) it would have been called a Model of 1905. However, the company would have called it a Winchester Model.
The stocks are correct and probably original to the gun. If you remove them and look on the inside of the right panel, using a flashlight at an oblique angle, you will probably see the serial number written with a pencil.
The cartridge designation - 32 Winchester CTG - was the way it was marked until about 1914. From that time until 1922, it would have said 32 W.C.F. CTG. From 1922 until the end of production in 1929 or 1930, it would have said 32-20 CTG.

Looks like it might be a 6 1/2 in. barrel. Good looking old S&W.
HDHIC.

Wait, I have 46895 and I thought it was from 1910. If this one is 1907-08 then mine must be somewhat earlier.

32-20 mod.1905

thanks to all for the info. tried flashlite thing and the numbers are there . just barley visible and they match. what would be an estimated value ? I was thinking of finding a box of ammo and shooting a couple. would modern ammo if available be safe or should I not fire it ?

thanks again.

I think 37XXX comes before 46XXX, so the dates are good for both guns. I personally like this caliber. It is fast, easy to shoot and more accurate that 38 Special. 32 Winchester is a greatly under-appreciated caliber.
