I just ordered a 9L ported performance center and will be putting a Red Dot on it.

I'm looking for info, on makes and models. I don't mind spending the $$$ for quality (within reason) but don't want to spend $500 when $300 will work and stand up, just as well. I'm leaning towards the Trijicon, because I've read it's the most durable, but I'm hearing good things about the vortex for half the money. It will probably be strictly a range gun, but you never know if it might be what I grab, in the middle of the night when things go bump.

Being a range gun, I'm think a fairly small moa, but the triangle reticle might be better? I don't mind keeping track of batteries, and changing them on a schedule, but if the dual illumination has other advantages I'm open. Co-witnessing is important to me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm on the same boat looking one for my 9L core. I narrowed my research to trijicon RM07 (adjustable), and RM02 (non adjustable). Plenty of comparison videos on youtube.

It is not an easy task every model has it own advantage and disadvantages. Cheaper options to consider venom vortex good reviews too, IMO looks inferior when compared side to side with trijicon also not as sturdy as trijicon, don't like the clear window neither.

I've been shooting the Vortex Venom on my 9mm CORE and it has been great. The Vortex Viper does co-witness just a little bit better. The Venom has been flawless!!

With red dot sights you really get what you pay for.I use micro aimpoints with my work rifles. And trijicon rmr 02 with handguns. The 02 because I like the non adjustable dot.But I have friends that prefer the adjustable dot .So one has to decide for themselves.I use a jpoint on the shield because the trijicon rmr is to large for it.Whatever red dot you use make sure you can cowitness your sights with red dot. That will mean suppersor height sights on most guns. With cowitness you get used to pointing your gun and the red dot is right there. It will become just as fast and natural as iron sight with more accuracy due to the dot imo.

Have 2 Trijicons on pistols. They work great. I do like the green triangle.

Nice, thanks for the feedback. How much do you shoot it? Anything in particular you like better, or less?

Thanks for the info. I've read with the triangle, the size is great for aquisition when speed is needed, and the point of the triangle used for precision...has that been you experience also?

How has the Jpoint held up, and how much shooting do you do with each of them?

As for your specific question on Red Dot sights. I have a Red Dot mounted on my SR45 and a Green Dot on my Canik 55 full size 9mm. I prefer the Green dot for visibility. For me, the Green dot is much easy to pick up and place on target. Certain lighting conditions seem to obscure the Red Dot. Both Laser dot systems are Crimson Trace mounted on the Picatinny rail under the barrels. I have XS Big Dot mounted on my CC Shield.

I would think, that if you place a Laser on an intended target (Person) they would give up, if you're not in a hand to hand situation (which won't matter then).

Take care, :-)

I think you are confusing a red dot sight with a laser sight. Two different sighting systems.

The laser projects a dot onto the target.

The red dot, or more properly called, "reflex" sight, displays a dot on a screen mounted to the gun, usually on top, which is then aligned onto the target. There is no actual projection to the target with a red dot/reflex sight.

Thanks for the help everyone. I ordered the Trijicon RM08g.

Thanks again

I have the Vortex Viper on my PC CORE 3.25 moa. Easy to adjust, no issues over 500 rounds so far. I like the fact that the window seems huge so the dot is pretty easy to pick up. My setup is super accurate if I pull the trigger right. I wanted the Trijicon as it seems it's the top contender but this was $200 vs $600. Can't imagine it being $400 better but time will tell. I've also noticed that turning the brightness up and down is very easy and you can cheat it up to a pretty large dot.
