Rem 700 trigger

I bought my first rifle, a new Rem 700 ADL .30-06, in October, 1974. The second weekend of the deer hunt, when I got near camp in the afternoon and decided to unload, I pointed the muzzle up and released the safety so I could work the bolt. The rifle went off when I did and my finger never got near the trigger.

The problem is real.

A N Y Remington 700 of mine goes to my friend Kenny Jarrett
for trigger replacement BEFORE l ever even load it. A Shilen is
installed in my Remingtons..

I had just bought a 700 in .308 when the recall letter came in the mail. I decided to go with the 3# Timney and then sent the receipt to Remington asking for a refund. I received a letter back saying the recall was voluntary and they would not be issuing refunds.

While I kept and have enjoyed my 700 I will keep this in mind when purchasing my next rifle.

I also have an 1994 700 in .270 which I hunt with at times I purchased used and I immediately took it to a trusted gunsmith and had it checked. He told me 700 triggers are fairly easy to adjust if you know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing it could result in a diaster. This makes me wonder how many of the "bad" triggers are ones that have been tinkered with.
