Removing Paint Filled in Letters

Traded my Glock 27 for a Glock 23 today.

Person was the original owner, and painted in the slide letters with model car paint.

I'm not a fan of white letters.

Did mass searches, and some say use acetone, and the others say use non acetone fingernail polish remover. I have a can of acetone out in the garage, but don't have any non acetone fingernail polish remover.

I'm thinking acetone and a stiff little nylon brush wouldn't hurt the finish on a Glock if I used some CLP on it right afterwards.

I'd still really hate to mess it up thou. Any of y'all ever removed painted in letters?

Acetone, used sparingly

Acetone will not damage the Glocks surface. Just make sure to have plenty of ventilation and no ignition sources in the area. I would use gloves also.

I've been doing the white lettering on my gear and all I can say is - I avoid acetone like the plague on ANY coated metal parts. Pay the $2 at Walmart for their non-Acetone bottle, use a soft cloth, and rub gently letting the solution do the work.

I have used polish remover with a straight pin and toothpick with success. Some guys have used crayons, paint and who knows what else. I just don't get it but guess it's something to do when bored...

Acetone will do it, but I've also used Hoppes No 9 and a toothbrush to remove paint from lettering.

Just like factory now!

Took it out in the garage, and dipped a Q Tip in acetone, rubbed a tiny amount on one section at a time. The paint disappeared instantly.

Brought it in the house and wiped it down good with CLP and it looks great.
