Return of the 3rd Gens!

What I would like to see Smith & Wesson produce is a return of the 3rd Gen autos. Here is my brief list (by no means am I asking them to limit to these suggestions):

39xx (honestly the 3913 & 3953 are the best carry pistols ever produced)
45xx
5906 (best service pistol ever made)

In the alternative, I would support a "hybrid" pistol. I would love to see a hammer fired pistol on the M&P frame. There are a lot of us shooters that are just not in love with striker fired pistols. These days there are only 3 viable solutions when someone is looking for a hammer fired pistol: Kel-tec (too cheap), H&K (too expensive), and Sig Sauer. I would much rather see a return of the S&W hammer fired pistols than purchase any of the other manufacturers.

Full disclosure statement: This would also increase the availability of accessories and holsters for those of us who refuse to ever relinquish our 3rd Gens!

We were blessed with the 3906. Finding one these days is getting harder and harder. A reintroduction of such a firearm at a mid-range price point with full support for S&W and the aftermarket would be a huge hit.

I thought I saw on this sight that only a few were made, well several hundreds.

Just leave the finger rest off the trigger guard.
I could never see why that was a trend.

Done and it didn't work. I have 2 m&ps. I have more 3rd gens. Bring them back in limited runs if you have to, but please bring them back.

The current company calling itself S&W has no interest in promoting the 3rd gen guns.

If they did, who would buy their cheaply made, ugly plastic guns with the droopy dustcovers and lousy triggers?

Thankfully I now have enough 3rd gen pistols to last me. But I'll still probably buy a few more anyway. Regards 18DAI

Sig has polymer, steel and 1911s, why can't Smith & Wesson? Charge more if you have to, but there is room in the market for all or the above.

Just to clarify .. Beretta's 92 series 9mm and for that matter their 80 series 380 autos have a hammer and are all steel. They seem to do quite well. The 92FS retails in the $600. So why can't SW do the same with the 5906. They are very similar pistols..technically the 5904 is the same as the 92FS... but you get the idea. The high priced Sigs and HKs are great hardware. But I love the Berretta and their price point. I bought a new one this year. It would have been a new S&W if they made it in steel instead of plastic.

I would be happy to endorse the OP's original statement as long as a pistol like the 4013TSW was included. I like 40sw, I don't care what ANYONE says!
