Just in case folks in this forum don't look in the 1981-present section....

The S&W Model 58 "Classic" returns - from S&W.

SKU: 150500 (150501 for Nickel)
Model: 58
Caliber: .41Mag
Capacity: 6 Rounds
Action: Single/Double Action
Barrel Length: 4" Light Lug
Front Sight: Integral Black Ramp
Rear Sight: Fixed Service Sight
Overall Length: 9 1/4"
Weight: 40.8 oz.
Grip: Wood Service Grip
Material: Carbon Steel
Finish: Bright Blue

Yes, it has the lock in the photos... darn it.

Available in Blue or Nickel.

Still, this is good news as the Model 58 was one of the most suitable self-defense revolvers - and still could be with the 175g Silvertips.

See the S&W site here.

It's just the marketing gurus at S&W doing their job!!
Take the 41mag out of the product line-up for no good apparent reason - let people bemoan the fact that the caliber isn't available and then after about a year and a half - bring it back.
Do it right - not only the 57 but the 58 as well and, by the way at a significant price increase.
You gotta love American ingenuity!!!!

The marketing gurus lost me at "Yes, it has the lock.
Will never own one.
Soon as they figure that out, they'll get more business back from alot of shooters.

Do you have to tell us every time? I'm willing to stipulate for the record that everyone who has said they won't buy a new S&W 500 times will say it another 500.

Oooooh.... they FINALLY brought back the 58?? I have to admit I LOVE the old 58; I have two of them in original blue, plus a custom snub nose built on the same platform.

I wish S&W would wake up and drop the !#$%^& locks from their designs. The locks serve no useful purpose, mar what would otherwise be a beautiful revolver, and are a nauseating reminder of the nannystate mentality that has been foisted off on us over the years.

I hope these guns sell well, in the hopes that S&W will realize that the .41 Magnum is worth supporting!

...and the old ones' values will increase while the new ones' will loose value the second you walk out the gun store door.

Who is buying these "classics"? I've been working two days per week in a gun store for almost a year, and I don't think we've sold many at all (if any). I bought a 40, but specifically because it doesn't have the lock, and I've never sold any classic to a customer myself. Somebody must be buying them, though, because not only has S&W continued the line, they are expanding it.

I have never complained about it publicly, till now..But I too refuse to buy one with a "HOle" in the LH side plate. S&W should cease that asinine practice and give you a free gun lock with every purchase, I don't need it "Built In" ...I was looking at a cool "Thunder Ranch" NIB the other day for a decent price...but there was that freaking hole...Puts me right off of them...

I handled one of the "new" 58s at the SHOT Show a few weeks ago..nice but as has been said why buy one with the "hole" when you can buy a sound classic for less money.

Most of the gun shops I visit are now almost completely out of used S&Ws without the lock. Some shops have none...and I think that is what S&W is hoping for...when there are so few pre-lock guns on the market people who want a good revolver will have to buy one with a "hole"...

Well, we know it won't make much of an inroad as a LE gun this time around at that price!

I wonder how sales of these pricey "classics" will hold up during the crunch?

What price is that, BG? S&W has no posted MSRP for the Model 58. Where are you getting your information?

Saxon_Pig - Thank you. For everyone else who gripes about the "Clinton agreement" and whines about the locks, I blasted folks for the whining on the Model 58 thread in the current-model forum. Send your flames privately though.

Just curious...

How many folks might buy a stainless version of the Model 58? I'd think a Model 658 would make a dandy field gun for the woods and mountains where there are large critters - bear, cougar, wolf and elk.

We'd chime in, but fear your reprisals after stating our opinions.
