I took my old Mdl .58 out to the ranch last week. I hadn't shot it in the 30 some years since I got out of LE.

I got a nice CC holster from a forum member recently, and that prompted me to take the old timer out for a spin.

I can tell you that old gun felt just like puttin' on an old pair of slippers.

It just felt natural and it hit just exactly where I aimed it even out to about 100 yards. It is amazing what a .41 JHP will do to prairie dogs.

Up close, I put six fast rounds in a circle about the size of a silver dollar without even thinking about what I was doing.

I guess those years of daily practice are still ingrained in the old system.

That old gun and I have been through some trials and it is as good as it ever was.

I ain't as fast as I was back then, but I'm still half fasst!!

Kind of like a reunion with an old childhood buddy. I can tell you it won't be near as long before the two of us go back out for some more fun this time.

Damn, Iggy, that old blaster is all business. I'd rather have that experienced old friend than a pristine safe queen any day.

Are those factory smooth targets, or did you smooth them down yourself? I see there are no medallions - are they aftermarkets of some kind?

Old duty wheelguns with nicks, dings, and lots of blue loss are the very best. No new gun can compete.

Those are some I made from scratch back in 1966.

Just sawed and filed and sanded until they felt and looked right.
Sad part is, I destroyed a pair of Magna PCs for the hardware.

Today the grips would be worth more than the gun.

I have had my Model 58 for a little over 30 years, it still shoots and looks as good as it did when new. I reload for it also....son wants to buy it,,,,,,I told him you already own it, you just have too wait awhile for it

I bought a nickled M58, with Pachmayr rubber grips, back in the 2002. I haven't shot it in a year or two and have been thinking about taking it out to the range again. I don't have any stories to go with it but it shoots my LSWC reloads running at about 950 fps real well.
Mine is a bit flashy but still seems extremely businesslike.

Your post may have given me the nudge I needed to take my M58 out again this week.

ACP230,

That ol .58 is pining away for some action. You both will enjoy a trip to the range.;)

Iggy that's the old friend that got you home alive twice isn't it? It's neat to see it! That's a really cool piece. What do you nornally carry these days if not that gem? IIRC you think quite highly of the .41 magnum, so I'm curious if you're still carrying a .41.

Flopshank,

I usually carry either a 2.5 " Model 19 or a 640-1 depending on the fashion statement I want to make on any given day.;)

I've got more belly than butt these days, and the model .58 tends to make me look a little bit like a "gansgta" if I ain't careful.:o
