Anyone got any experience getting their revolvers coated with RB3 or Rogard by Robar? I am thinking of having my carry pieces done by Robbie. Got pictures???

I have had several guns re finished by ROBAR.

2 revolvers and one semi auto.

This 29-3 ws formerly blued and now wears ROBARS NP# finish:

I had them do a two tone finish on this one. Originaly I wanted it all done in ROGUARD but they told me that the gases generated by the 500 S&W would burn it off the cylinder face.

NP3 on the cylinder. Comp amd cylinder latch and ROGUARD on the frame and BBl.

Hereis my 84 vintage CZ 75 all NP3'd

As far as the finishes are concerened they are hell for durability. Depending on what you want either will serve you well. I will tell you this, the NP3 is slick (as in slippery) and makes manipulating the slide on an auto a little tricky.

If your having a revolver done, it's not that much of a concern.

The ROGUARD is reflective to a point (it's not a dull black but not shiney either) and will cath the light a little.

I like it and if I were to do another gun I'd use it exclusively.

Turn arund times are a little on the slow side but ROBAR won't release your gun till it's perfect.

I highly recommend them.

ATCDoctor,
Thanks for your comments. I have had a couple of semi autos done by Robbie, but never a revolver. I think I will be packing up a few to send to Robar early this week. What was your turn around time? And have you had any ware anywhere on the revolvers?

I had heard of Robar but never saw any quality photos. Thanks for the Pics. I think I might send them one of my 586's.

Turnaround for my M500 was about 8 weeks. I dropped it off on November 30th last year and had it back the last week of January. Figuring down time for the holidays it wasn't that bad.

The other two were a different story ( I had them done the summer of 2003 )and they ran about 16 weeks for the pair. The long pole in the tent on those two was the CZ. ROBAR damaged a part pertainng to the safety and it took forever for us to find the part.

I would bet on around an 8 week turnaround depending on their workload.

I always wait for them to run a special on their coating and will drop a few guns off at a time.

As far as wear on the revolvers is concerned there is nothing significant to report.

You can see a slight turn line on the 29-3 but thats it.

Like I said before, I wanted the 500 completely done in ROGUARD but they wouldn't stating that the hot gases from the round would burn it off.

That being said, the barrel face/forcing cone and topstrap were all coated during the process and it hasn't burnt off yet. I have an 8 3/8 inch model I'm thinking of having done in all ROGUARD and this time I will sign a waiver of the warranty. That stuff (ROGUARD) won't come off, Im confident in that.

There's a turn line on the cylinder of the 500 but thats it. I would worry too much about holster wear using either finish. These coatings ought to last a lifetime.

Did you have the internals coated as well..... if so, how did it affect the action on the revolvers. I am thinking of using Robar to refinish my trusted EDC 19-4 inside and out.

Greetings- I have a 1911 that was finished in Roguard, in 2009. The magazines, hammer, trigger, etc. were finished in NP3.

Over time, the Roguard finish has begun to show minor wear from continual use. It essentially has gotten shiny on those areas that wear against the holster. The NP3 on the magazines has worn off at the points of repeated contact.

I am happy with both finishes. They are easy to care for and I do not think any other finish would have withstood repeated use, better.

Cheers!
