I know they do good work, but I wish someone would train S&W employees in customer service. #1 - Don't lie. I called on an estimate for some work on my revolver (minor stuff) and the person from repairs said it will cost about $XXX.XX and we'll have it back to you in about three weeks. Great! So I ship it off. Two weeks go by and, "is it ready?" - "No. It's still in analizing stage." What ever that is? Ten days later, "Is it ready yet?" "It's still in analizing. Try back in a couple weeks." Now it's already been longer than what they quoted me. I call back in a week, "Is it ready yet?" - "It's through the analizing stage and it's going to cost $XXX.XX" I said ok and paid for it on the phone. To this day it's still being worked on (one hour's worth of work is taking about 6 weeks). The bottom line to Smith & Wesson techs - You do marvelous work, but please we're all big boys and girls...If the work is going to take 6-8 weeks then don't quote 3.

i have always been told six to eight weeks and got the gun back in less. when things get busy the repair shop guys are often pulled from their jobs and put on the assembly line.

When I recently sent in my Model 1076 for repair (4 1/2 weeks today), I was told up front that it would be 6 to 8 weeks before I'd get it back because of the current backlog.

I sent a 610 in for some minor repairs about a month ago. They informed me that it would probably take 6 to 8 weeks. I said that was not a problem, so they sent me a shipping label.

I shipped it on a Friday and got it back the second Friday, two weeks to the day.

I just took it to the range last Saturday (range was closed last Saturday, July 4) and the problem was remedied.

Perhaps my luck was good, I'm glad of course, but initially they did say 6 to 8 weeks and that's what I was prepared for.

I presently have a 640-1 into the Custom Center for custom work (new XS Big Dot sight, crowning, chamferring, and dehorning) as I write this.

The Custom Center had my 640 for about ten days before I received a telephone call from "Vito" to discuss the work that I had requested. During our conversation Vito related that the work would take six to eight weeks upon receipt of my payment. Vito further related that all repairs of firearms under warranty take preference over paid custom work. (Since I am a customer paying to have custom work done on my revolver I can't say that I'm thrilled with that idea... but in reality, I think it is the 100% correct way for S&W to handle their repairs and custom work in order maintain a satisfied customer relationship. Personally, I would rather wait longer and have my work done correctly that to have it rushed back to me with issues.)

After our discussion Vito said that he would mail a written estimate out to me. About five business days latter I received the estimate in the mail and then had to call S&W to make payment by credit card. To be honest with you... I was quite surprised that it was harder for me to make a telephone connection with a person who was able to accept my credit card payment than it was to speak with the gunsmith who was examining my revolver while speaking with me on the telephone?

As of this date... I am one week into my estimated labor time frame and I am anxiously awaiting the return of my "always gun".

I sent a 617 back for warranty work, and it was returned to me in less than 2 weeks.
