I don't know where to post this question so I was hoping someone here would know.

I live in the state of Pa.

I know the majority of the laws regarding firearms in Pa.

I seen a Smith and Wesson Sd40Ve that can be put on layaway which interested me.

I am turning 21 on December 11th basically in about 3 months.
So I am 20 until December.

Now in Pa, I can technically own a handgun if one is gifted and I can also own long guns.

BUT

I am wondering if I can use Layaway on the S&W Sd40Ve so that I can pick it up in 3 months once I turn 21.

I am wondering if I can put it on layaway while I am 20 then just pay for it all in 3 months and have it shipped to my local FFL.

In 3 months I can legally pick it up, so I was wondering if this is a good way to technically have the gun but I have to wait for it. I seen it on gun broker.

I was going to buy a Glock 31 but I bought some things and now I only have enough money for a S&W Sd40Ve which I thought about getting before because its a great deal.

Just wondering if this is possible.
I put the gun on layaway since I am 20, then I pay for it fully in 3 months when I am 21 and I can have it shipped to my FFL and pick it up.

Contact the seller and ask them. I don't think it's a gun purchase until you take delivery. If you know an FFL (and they're willing to hold it for you) you should be able to pay for it and do the paperwork/pick it up on your B-day. I'm not an attorney, so don't take what I say as gospel.

BTW What are you calling a good deal? In my neck of the woods you can get a new SDVE for $289.

$289? That seems on the low end? The cheapest I ever seen one of those on websites like gunbroker is around $300 minimum.

But I did contact the seller of the firearm by email. I was browsing through guns on gunbroker and some guy said he allows layaways up to 6 months.

I have herd what you said which is that, its not a technically a purchase until you actually like get the firearm from a ffl dealer/do the check / ect.

I asked the guy how do the layaway works because I have no clue, I didn't even know you could do that with guns. I was assuming that the guy online was going to hold it in his place until I pay the gun off then he would ship it to my FFL and I would just get it.

That was my plan :
Step one - put the gun on layaway (when he replies how to do so)
Step two - Wait until Decemeber
Step Three - Pay the gun off so he can ship it to my ffl I assume
Step Four - I will now be 21 and the gun is paid which means I get to take it home when it gets sent to my FFL.

Well I herd that some people say its okay to put a gun on layaway since you don't actually have the gun or doing the check. Some people say you can't get in trouble until you go to get the gun/do the check before 21.

But since I will be 21 when I pay the full price I guess I should have no problem.

I'm in PA.
i "layed away" my 40c last february. i was working an odd shift, 11pm to 11am. the money was in the savings, but not in the checking. guns were going fast at the times so i put money down until i could get to the bank or get paid on the following thursday, whichever came first. they waited until i finalized the purchase on the following thursday to do any paper work. they basically put the down payment receipt and gun on a back shelf.

i'd say you're ok, but the people to ask would be the dealer you will be purchasing from. even though it may be legal, they may not want to do that.

Im in Pa and I layaway all my firearms purchases however, you have to ask the store about their policies. Some only do 30 day layaway s others might no do one until you are officially 21...call and ask

I got a email back and this is what it said.

It said that I go on gun broker and click "Buy Now"
Then I contact the seller and ask them to layaway the gun.

I have to put 10% down.

From there the email states that I have 6 months to purchase the firearm.

The seller location from gunbroker says KY.
I am in PA. So wouldn't they KEEP THE GUN IN KY until I make the full purchase then they would sent it out to PA.

The reason I say this is because if the gun is going to stay in KY then I don't think there is much reason for me to tell them I am 20 since the people In PA will be the one doing the background check and when I buy the gun I will be 21 anyways.

What I am saying is I am not going to a gun store in PA in person and laying it away(I'm laying it away online) for it to matter that I am 20. I was thinking that since the seller is in KY that it shouldn't matter if I am 20 since I will be 21 when the gun gets shipped to PA and the background check will say I'm 21 so its no problem.

People have told me that telling them my age is something they do not need to know because they are not the ones doing the background check and I haven't made full purchase of the gun, It was my understanding that my age will only matter once the gun is shipped and I got to actually pick it up when I pay in full for it.

Basically why give info that they do not need to know is what I am saying, even if its still legal I just don't see a reason to tell them something they are not asking?
