S&W Shield NP3'd

Tim, Robar has a new finish called Poly-T2 that might be what you're looking for. I have not personally tried this finish since I really like their NP3. So if you do try it let us know how it turns out.

Interesting...thanks for sharing. Always good to have new resources to add to the data base. Nice...looks OEM.

This looks awesome! thanks for sharing.. If you were to sell your firearm after having this coating done I'm sure it could only add to it's value, also making it a good investment. I think I might have to get my M&P-9c done in this NP3 finish. With all the black parts inside showing silver wear the norton special is a great idea for our M&Ps :)

My 1'st M&P to get NP3'd is several years old now. I carry and shoot this M&P9c a lot and shoot it quite a bit, it still looks new. The only hint of wear is on the top of the barrel hood from the slide locking and unlocking. But as far as holster wear it is nonexistent, this is one durable finish.

I opted, as I always do for their Norton Special where they NP3 everything that can be plated including the frame parts. They just ran a June special where instead of the usual $199 it was $149. Their finish is worth every penny.
I see this thread is a year old...but glad it was brought back! That is some very nice work! Looks so smooth. I am thinking of getting another Shield 9 and making it really nice...this NP3 is one thing it will have done...want the big sights put on for these old eyes and wonder if they will put those sights on it I send them in after they put the NP3 on?

I just saw this and am very impressed. Robar did a beautiful job on your Shield. I intend to contact them after the holiday, but thought that I might get a faster answer here. When specifying the Norton special where they plate all parts except the frame and the magazine, do you ship the complete firearm and Robar does the disassembly and reassembly, or do you disassemble the firearm yourself and ship only the parts that are getting plated? The reason I'm asking is that with all of the federal regulations, shipping a complete firearm through UPS using the required overnight air can run close to $100 (from past experience), while shipping unserialized parts can be sent at the much cheaper ground rate. Since the frame is the part that has the serial number on it, and since it is polymer and won't be plated anyway, it would not have to be sent as long as all of the parts that are being plated are taken out and shipped beforehand.
So, does Robar do all the disassembly or does the owner disassemble it and just ship the required parts?

You ship the complete firearm and Robars' gunsmiths do the disassembly and reassembly. If you request any other work like night sights they will do that too. If you have a friendly FFL I recommend you ship through them as it will save you some money. Shipping FedEx or UPS can get very expensive, UPS once charged me $60 for next day air. My dealer on my next pistol mailed it USPS and it was only $18. But that only works if you have a friendly dealer that will ship for you. Even if you have to bite the bullet and ship FedEx or UPS it's still worth it.

so how many rounds have you put thru it and is it your CCW for everyday? That is very nice!:)

Thanks mag318 for the FAST reply. I know I had the experience of dealing with UPS just recently when I sold a firearm. UPS charged $90 to ship a 1911 style handgun to the buyer, so I know how expensive it can be. FedEX said they won't ship handguns, so UPS seems to be the only one who will for a private individual. But since Robar does all of the gunsmith work for you, I guess it kind of makes up for the expensive shipping, especially after seeing how beautiful your Shield came out. Thanks again.

I actually prefer my M&P9c to the Shield and do carry it daily, my round count is around 3000. The Shield is a great pistol but I find the 9c just as easy to conceal plus I like the 12 round magazine.

Everyone, thanks for sharing the pictures. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Thanks for bringing this old thread back around.

I like the results of the NP3 plating and will be looking into having this done to both my .40 and 9mm Shield.

thank you

This the very same Mag318 from the Beretta forum? Looks to be so. :D

Damn nice choice, sending your Shield to the NP3 Gun Spa (as I call Robar Guns). I love Robar. I have have my 92FS and the Nano I sold done there. They do fantastic work!!! My NP3'd 92 will never leave me. I specifically hunted down metal controls so I could have as much done as possible.

I will probably keep my shield stock though as I want it to remain black, for a more undercover appearance. Now if they could come up with a black NP3...

I k kw they have the black Poly T-2 coating. But, when they sent me out some samples of all of their finishes. The Poly T-2 didn't hold up as well to my torture tests as the NP3 and NP3 plus.

Yes Atticaz I'm the same on the Beretta Forum.

I know this thread is old but I was glad to see it today. I bought my Shield 40 on Friday. I really wanted a bi-tone pistol to replace my Sig 239, but was completely sold on the Shield. If it wasn't for the 6-8 week turn around- I'd be on this tomorrow.
