Happy Sabbath afternoon to ya'll.

Thought I would wait until this afternoon before I shared all these profound bits of knowledge, gossip and related stories with you. It's a cool Sunday in Dixie today, after the storms earlier in the week it feels good, except for the cool wind.

There were at least 17 confirmed tornadoes in Alabama on Wednesday, March 17th. Way to many in my opinion. Thank the Lord there were no fatalities in the state from the storms. Several homes and businesses destroyed, but those can be replaced.

On a related subject, my Great Grandmother, Sara Ruth Peek Hampton, died as a result of injuries received during a tornado that destroyed the house she was in, on March 29, 1932. We, my MBH and I, interviewed several people that survived that series of storms that killed hundreds of people in Alabama on that day. They called them "cyclones" back then, and there were no storm radios, sirens, or any other warning devices available.

According to the local newspaper, she died in a emergency hospital that was set up in a local church, in Lineville, AL.

I have to get tomato seeds planted this coming week, that is, if I plan on tomato sandwiches during the summer this year. In 2020 we ate tomatoes from late June until mid November, and I never got tired of them.

Our last average frost date is on or about April 23rd. I remember covering up about 100 plants one year to protect them from the frost in late April. I would save empty 2 liter plastic coke bottles, cut the bottom out and use them for wind and frost protection on tender plants.

Have you ever planted egg plants, kolrabi, beets, kale, brussel sprouts, etc?? Never cared for egg plants much, but they are really pretty in the garden.

Enough of these ramblings, ya'll have a blessed week, stay safe.

I remember working in our giant garden when I was a kid. All the
while listening to all my friends playing baseball nearby. I swore
that when I grew up I would never have a garden. And I haven't.
I do admire those of you who have the energy and drive the have one.

Buenos tardes Leon,

Pollen, pollen, pollen. We can hardly breathe ova hear! Even Quigley's sneezing!

Too windy this week for the gun range. Match grade .22's are going from 35¢ to 60¢ per round. Cannot waste any!

Secluded for the 2nd Pfizer shot tomorrow. I count it a blessing!

I hope you all have a great week. PTL for no deaths in the Alabama cyclones! I have five grandchildren very near that area.

Blessed and highly favored indeed!

I have planted all but kolrabi. Like you I am not a big fan of
egg plant but they are alright grilled.

And a happy sabbath to you all too! Been just spectacular here in SW MI this weekend - 60's and sunny. Got a lot of yard work done then lots of basketball. Even found time to run a hundred rounds thru a couple 22's and clean my golf clubs getting ready for 18 holes tomorrow afternoon. Great time of year. Oh, and the records indicate that we had a few inches of snow one year ago yesterday. [emoji41]

It's just starting to snow here: we're expecting 2-4" by Tuesday.

I was a little worried when I hadn't seen your Sabbath missive this morning Leon. Glad you're well!

Was wondering about you. Glad you are alright.

I have lived thru a coup[le of tornados when I was in Indiana. They are no fun. The damage they can do is nothing short of awesome.

Anyway I was a bit worried about you due to what I had been seeing on the news. Glad you are O.K.

Hope everyone has a blessed week. Stay safe and healthy.

Good evening everybody. Sorry I'm a little late, but I've been on the road all day. I spent the last two weeks up in northern Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie helping to take care of my brother. He had rotator cuff surgery so he needed someone to come up to help him out during his recovery. My sister and I were going to take turns helping out my brother, but my brother recovered so well and quickly that I was able to come home a week early and my sister won't have to go up at all.

My brother and I were able to get out and go to the gun shows in Medina and Tallmadge, OH. We left of few bucks (including Golden Dollars for admission) at the shows. No big purchases but got some small things we needed.

My brother took care of me during my medical episodes so now was the time to return the favor. That's what families do. But it's good to be back in my happy home.

When I was at home beets were planted in row but Kale was mixed with Turnips, Mustard and other greens in a salit patch. Now I sow Turnips in a patch and sow Collards in another patch. Collards are the only greens I like but I like the bottom of the Turnips. Larry
