So how good is the SD40ve? Just got a grey SD40ve with Hi Viz sights and a $75 gift card, all for $329 at Academy Sports. From the Smith & Wesson site, its a Academy exclusive. First SD I've ever owned. Seemed like a good deal.

I've owned the SD9VE for about 1.5 years and have to say it's an amazing bang for the buck.

I've been reading up on the SD models, they seem to get high marks.
The deal looked pretty good, and I like the feel of the SD.
I have a couple M&P FS 40s that are pretty good. I must say I like the 40S&W.

I used to own an SD9. I sold it because I never could master the trigger. Still, it was a very well-made gun. Comparing it side-by-side with a Glock that cost $200 more, the SD9 was built just as well or better.

I now wish I had kept that gun. I suspect that with practice I'd have learned to shoot it.

OP, I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy an SD40VE.

I've heard about the trigger. The M&Ps took about 300 to 500 rounds to smooth out. I've have not been able to shoot this SD40 yet, (3 day waiting), but did get to dry fire it. Trigger felt good. So I think it should be good after 300 to 500 rounds. Over all gun looks great. The sites are real nice.

I carried a Kel-Tec for a long time, so I wasn't uncomfortable with the SD's trigger. I did however buy the Apex spring kit. 20 bucks off ebay and entirely worth it.

I'll run a few box's, then decide if anything needs to be changed. From what I know with the M&Ps, might add the slip on rubber grips.

That's good to hear. How long have you had it? I'll be picking mine up this week, (3 Day Wait on hand guns). Hope to get to the range next weekend. I have several M&Ps in 40 and like the cal.

They are good value for the money. The trigger takes some effort to master -- one thought there is to remember to stroke all the way through, like you would a revolver, rather than slowly feeling your way to the "break." These triggers are a little too mushy to "break" crisply, at least not like a 1911 trigger breaks.

But as a self-defense pistol... as a carry piece under a variety of conditions... this is a good pistol. And learning to master this somewhat long and heavy trigger will only make you a better shot with other pistols.

Having said all that... I wonder if the new M&P 2.0 isn't a better long-term investment. I've seen them in the low $400s (counting the current $50 rebate).

Who has the older SW9VE with a 14 lbs trigger pull.

Liked the video. That's a good break down of the SD40. As for the M&P 2.0 I already have some M&P FS 40 1.0s, which I'm happy with. I do like the new M&P 40c 2.0. I did get to dry fire my new SD, and like the trigger. I'm a revolver guy.

I've had it for about 5 or 6 years if memory serves me. My brother in law had it and offered it to me for a really good deal. He bought one new and had to return it to S&W for some reason. They sent a brand new one back and I was the first to shoot it. I like the 40 cal too. I thought about a 40 when I bought my Shield but they didn't have one in stock, so I bought the 9mm. A good excuse for a future purchase. I had no problem with the trigger. It's a DAO with a longer pull then a SA but not as long as the Bodyguard 380. Let us know what you think when you get yours to the range.

Just picked up my SD40ve form Academy. Have not got to the range yet. Had to wait 3 days, before I could get it. Been dry firing it a little, already had it apart. Looks great, trigger is nice. Will post again once I've had it to the range.

I bought one "new" in box at a gun show several years ago. Dry fired it for a week, didn't like it, sold it unfired.

Finally made it to the range. As I said I liked the looks of this gun.
A grey frame with a stainless steel slide and barrel. Frame to
slide fit is very good and the High Viz Sights are excellent. I did
a quick clean and inspection prior to going to the range, everything
was ok. At the range shot 75 rounds with NO issues. Trigger pull
was smooth and accuracy was good. The SDT trigger while
heavy, is easy to work. Back from the range did a good cleaning
and re-inspected, all still checked good.

About the only thing I don't like is the Take Down Lever. It's a pain to work. They should have made the tabs stick out more. I might have to change this out.

Was able to get 2 Additional mags from GrabAGun for $18.99 each.
Best price I could find. Ran all the mags at the range and
they all preformed as expected. Over all this gun is a keeper.
For the price a good deal.

The trigger on the SD9/40VE isn't bad once you get used to it. It's no worse than a Glock with a New York trigger, and I had one of those for many years as a carry gun. And of course if you just have to have a lighter trigger Apex can set you up.
